Importing Granite, Marble and Limestone from UK

Hi everyone,

I am new to import business.

At this point, I have applied for EORI number today.

I am looking to import granite, marble and limestone from india.

I have an old school friend who have their own factories of granite and marble stone. They have their own mines and factories - so everything is in house.

I plan to import and target retailers in UK rather than end consumer.

I am getting my friend to send me some samples right now.

I am planning to go about this in following way:

1. Contact all local granite suppliers in person and present them with samples and prices **
2. Contact any granite suppliers here.

My questions are as follows:

How does one go about contacting big kitchen places such as Howdens etc.?
Can someone recommend a good reliable shipping agent - I am in Dartford area.

Any help and pointers will be much much appreciated.

Big places? Contact their head office and ask to speak to a buyer.

We have no idea abut the first question, maybe you can go their office and speak to the manager.
As for the shipping agent, google is the best friend. You can search it on google and call them.

I'm just down the road so to speak in Chelmsford - We have services from India if needed.

However, right now you need to find the customers. If you know the customs tariff (commodity) codes for the products, there is an online database that can be accessed to find all current importers in the UK of that particular product!

Just put the commodity code in (minimum first 3 digits) and maybe 2019 to get a decent sample of data.

Hi Yogendra, my company has handled shipments of black granite from India many times before. Rather than shipping unprocessed slabs/pieces have you considered processing the granite into tomb stones, memorials etc as this may add value? Please also consider that crates of granite will be very heavy so you will need a fork lift to handle as well as suitable storage space etc.

Similar, My dad has granite exports to Asian countries and we want to expand to UK. I live in UK for sometime, please can some one advise best way to start looking for potential buyers? How to approach.
