Importing from China...where to start?

Had someone ask us today if we know anyone who has contacts in China to be able to import components for making electric gates. He currently buys them from a UK supplier (who buys from China) and then installs the gates himself. He wants to buy a container load in one go.

Anyone any idea where he should start looking? Do brokers exist that can source the suppliers out there for a commission? Or are there any specialist companies that can help or advise him? Thanks

Hello my friend,

If you are considering import items from China, the best way is to find a Chinese purchasing service agent local,as ucobuy agent one i ever know. Maybe they can tell you the details info you want to know.Whatever you import anything through them or not. you can try it.

Hope to help you.Anyway it is just my own point

Dear guy,

A lot of people's suggestions are great...going to Alibaba, Global Source are good channels.
And if you would like to ensure everything is going under control when sourcing in China,
you'd better have someone out there in China to help you.
Because everybody knows that quality is very important, price is also very important.
Nobody would be happy when the product arrive at UK but it is totally different from what you want.
Your question: "Do brokers exist that can source the suppliers out there for a commission?"
The answer is yes.
and "are there any specialist companies that can help?" the answer is yes too.
I am here in China, if you need more information or suggestion, let me know and it's my pleasure to provide assistance.

Thanks!
Nick

alibaba.com is a good place to start looking. There are hundreds of thousands of factories that you can choose.

And here I am in the UK faced with these hundreds of thousands of factories who claim to be able to deliver my needs but I feel just a tad worried that either I will receive something other than that which I ordered or that my money will simply vanish into the ether with Ali Baba blaming one of the 40 thieves !

Not many factories or company listed in Alibaba will steal your money, but yes, it is very possible that you may not getting what you expected.

If you cant come to China and inspect the factory yourself, then find a trading company that can supervise/inspect the factory for you. The trading company has to be in China or has someone in CHina, that way they can check if the factory is real and they can supervise the production for you. And most of the trading company has done business with different chinese factories, so they will know which one is better and which one has better products. You have to pay extra to the trading company tho.

If you need help, our firm has a partner trading company, hope they can help you. That is their website:mnvtrade.com.

Alibaba is definitely a good place to start looking but be careful.

Always make sure to arrange your payment terms and terms of delivery according to the ones you want and not what they suggest.

Be careful buying goods CIF as this means you have less control over what is actually in the container.

The canton fair is just coming around the corner and its always a good place to find new suppliers, though usually the prices are not particularly competitive, but there are some guarantees (not solid) on on quality.

For all products but especially electrical products, make sure you have some kind of QC in place to ensure that they meet the required restrictions.

Chinese factories can be particularly good at pulling the wool over our eyes.
