I'm Looking For Investors/Business Partners

Hi,
This is one of my first post on the forums, so apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place!
I’ve been working on an idea for quiet a while now, tweeking it and conducting market research to ensure it is ready before going to its development stage.
Now, the idea is ready to go. This will be a groundbreaking app, which has the potential revolutionise an industry.
I’m currently looking for a business partner who can develop mobile apps, or an investor to fund its development.

The main competitors for this startup currently turnover between £3-40 billion annually. In other industries, similar applications are currently profiting £500 million.

I am UK based, and therefore I’m only looking for UK based investors or business partners.

I’m also looking for somebody with a passion for business and/or the travel industry to come on board too.

If you’re looking for a project with extremely high potential, to revolutionise a multi-billion pound industry - then send me a message to discuss further!!

I have a full business/application plan drawn up, and I’m waiting for the right investor/business partners to come on board and make this a reality.

Again, apologies if this isn’t the right/correct way of posting.

    Irrelevant nonsense.

If you want to provide any figures, state how much you've invested yourself, not the size of the industry! You could also state what personal commitment you're making to the project (like giving up your day job to pursue this) and what skills you will be contributing.

From the post above all you're contributing, it seems, is your idea (albeit one you claim to have researched).

Ideas are like assh*les, everybody has one. They are worthless. Tell us (and investors) what you're actually offering besides this brilliant, awesome, genius idea of yours.

And tell us what you want.
If you want £200k then pretty pointless someone with £10k trying to put money up front.

I don't go looking for investment opportunities or app ideas that need investment. Still see a half dozen or more app ideas a day on various forums and sites wanting investment to bring to market.

    Disappointing response Clinton.

You've told me that I have an idea - which is what is stated in the original post. An idea I have conducted market research on. And I'm looking for an investor/business partner to listen to my idea and point me in the right direction.

I'm never looking to get anything for free, and always operate an open book policy with anything like this. However, why would I post the fundamental idea onto a forum such as this?

My apologies if seeking advice on a business forum, and looking for the help I know I need is a problem.

Maybe this is worded wrongly, but I fundamentally believe in the basis behind the app and know I need help if I'm going to have any chance of getting it off the ground. I appreciate what MR.D has said in regards to investment - advice and guidance is always appreciated.

You need more robust answers than that.

If you think Clinton's tough (he is but rightly so), imagine how tough a 'competitor turning over 40 billion' is going to be.

If you're serious, you could do much worse than at least considering your answers to the questions posed. If nothing else it should focus your mind on things that are important to an investor.

I understand what you're saying, when in reality I'm not denying what is being said. I haven't said the feedback is wrong, I just think it's vague.

The truth is I'm new to this, and I said in my post. I want investors and potential partners to come forward to offer me advice I know that I need to move forward.

I'm saying I have a good idea. But my post fundamentally is asking for those to help me out in developing an idea into something further.

There isn't a mention of how much I need from an investor - because I'm not in that position.

There is no arrogance in what I'm writing - I'm just trying to help turn an idea into reality, and know I need as much help as possible. My mention of the industry, and how much the turnover is, is because that's the truth behind the industry and the fundamental idea would be to rival them. Every young footballer dreams of competing in the Premier League right?

Hope that explains my situation better. And again, apologies if my first post wasn't very clear.

Don't worry about vague questions, worry about giving vague answers.

You don't come across as arrogant fwiw, however you do need to come across as far more helpful. It's likely you'll have to be more open about the idea if you want to get anywhere. I know that probably sounds daunting but it's virtually certain nobody is looking to 'steal' it off you. Assume other people have thought of it (or something extremely similar) before. The idea itself isn't worth much, the execution is everything.

Hi, welcome to the forum and the sometimes unsubtle postings you will see on this site, they are all meant to help but having been here for quite a while we do see the same sort of questions over and over again.

It may not seem it but a good place to start would be to look at the "you wont get an investment because" thread which is a sticky at the top of this forum.

Don't be put off by the title, it is a guide to no only how to not get an investment but also a guide to the pitfalls to avoid when seeking an investment.

    Good luck

Thankyou Chawton. I appreciate your help.

I don't believe my idea will be stolen, but the technicalities of it are complex. Writing a travel app is so vague, but how else can I describe it? You're bang on about description - I have a technical pitch wrote up but I definitely need to work on an outline.
Anybody interested in getting involved is more than welcome to send me a message to discuss further. There, I am more than happy to discuss further and in as much detail as I can.

https://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/threads/you-wont-get-investment-because.385696/ (gotta love a bit of self promotion)

The fundamental error on your approach is that you are focusing on the idea and the technicalities in it

At this point your attention needs to be more around the market and the business itself - and how you are going to run / develop the business

Alternatively you could try to sell the idea or enter into a joint venture with somebody in the field

Are you needing funds to get this idea developed? If so, how much.

Your initial post seems to suggest that maybe you don't necessarily need money, but actually you need support in the technical aspects of developing the app itself. If that's the case, why not hire a company who builds apps to do that for you and then you're not giving away equity?

If you are looking for money, then answers will be vague while the question is vague. Give us some detail about how much money you need, how much you have, etc....

I agree- I have never launched an app before. The reason I have come on this forum has actually been met quite successfully, as I wanted to know what to do to attract investors and get the business off the ground.

I'd love to know how others got there first investor, launched their first business or landed their first partnership. That's the boat I'm in mate, trying to launch for the first time and after all the advice I can get.

Ok no questions answered still. Come on, you have to work with us here.

Assuming worst case scenario, that all you have is an idea and some market research, the next step is to figure out how much money you need. Approach a company that develops apps, as them to give you an idea how much it would cost to develop this app you want to develop. You might then find that you have enough in your back pocket to fund it without an investor, or then at least you will know how much you need someone to invest.

I would think through how much money you're going to need to market this app though. I have a good friend who had a company developing apps for kids - very successful. However he mentioned to me once how much he was spending on marketing, and it was eye-watering. The issue is that people are developing and launching apps all the time. I don't know the number but its probably thousands per week. If you're not in the "app store recommended", or doing enough good PR to get mentioned in a magazine or something, you will get lost amongst the thousands, and you won't get even a slice of that billion pound industry.

I was going to suggest that Sam, the OP, is a timewaster, given that:
    • he has refused to confirm how much money he wants to raise
    • he has refused to explain what he has actually achieved to date e.g. proof of concept
    • he has refused to explain what he wants to do with the money, or when
    • he hasn't explained what his disposal route is, to give any indication of what return investors might achieve over what timeframe
    • he has pitched for money without taking the time to conceal his illiteracy with a spellchecker
Now that his username has changed to something meaningless, I'm convinced he is a timewaster!

So you are looking for investors & partners to come on board, but not to invest - just to offer advice on how to move forward?

In return for this advice, what would they get? A warm fuzzy feeling? No, they're going to want a piece of the pie. And to give them that, you're going to want some money. All of which means they are investing. So go back to the original advice given - no one will invest in you because...
