So basically i am willing to start an import/export business, i live in uk.
I would like to know what I need? Do I need a lisence? and other paper work? If so how can I apply for them?

I want to sell small products such as jewelries and fashion accesories.

Have to be honest and say that I am really surprised how many people ask the same question as you on these forums.

However helpful the people on the forum might be, are you really going to depend on advice given?

Really suggest you do some proper background work. Get some books on the subject, download free information from HMRC about imports, same for setting up a business, contact your bank to see what they can offer......

If you really really want to find out what you need to do, then you should have no problems doing something like I am suggesting. Hope you do!

Well said. I kind off get annoyed at how basic questions are asked hundreds of times from people thinking that importing is a get rich quick scheme and not much work is involved. I`m not pointing in particular at you OP, just shouting out loud !

I have 9 years experiences on exporting our toys products to many countires and UK, many of our clients have no any licence on import. if you want to do small business only, I don't think you need to do paper work, exporters/suppliers can use express service to deliver the order to you hands, no any trouble. very convenient.

When you make a large order and want to ship by air or by sea, you might need to apply a licence.

First, you need get athorized to import goods from abroad, it do needs some paper work and other preparations, then you need to find the prodcut supplier, and discuss the quality and price and delivery and so on. After products is shipped, you should prepare for customes clearance.

Import is not easy as think, you have to find to way to make sure you can get the right products with good price, so the credit of the supplier is very important, we think we can help if you need to import from china.

Hi, G, thanks for your comment and doubt, you are right, I just infer it, all I know is import&export business which is to or from China.
