how to sell to restaurants & bars

definatly - take note though- that most smaller hotels will have an owner that will look after pretty much all high end stuff.

any chains - will have a marketing manager for the group i.e not in the hotel itself.

i would look up some hotels - do some background work about the hotel and find out the owners name(s) then drop in.

can you tell me a little more about your services?

I currently sell to bars, restaurants and hotels and find the easiest way in is to ask for the General Manager - alot of the time the decision wont fall under his remit however they will point you in the right direction. If its an independent bar/restaurant arrange a meeting with him. Take them out for a coffee or a social drink -If they are part of a group ask for the Group Operations Manager/Director.

Its very rare you will secure your appointment from the first call or email. These guys are extremely busy so send the email with a product brochure and ask for the appointment in the email ''I understand you will be extremely busy, however i am in the area on Thursday May 18th and wondered if you could spare an hour to discuss in more detail''

Even after the email you may not here anything but you have got to keep trying - I generate all my appointments normally around the fourth/fifth contact (emails and calls) - Persistence is key!!

Hi Mozz,
We develop mobile websites whereby users can easily order food, view menus, find restaurant using phone GPS, "Share" & "Like", plus lots more.

did you find you had to be persistent when inside the restaurant ? I dont want to upset them if they do say "no thanks" without knowing what i want, but at the same time need to get the service across.

Decide where your market is! Who can buy from you..
Restaurants and bars are a very large demographic! Where & who have you sold to. I spend all my days in pubs, clubs and restaurants, but I know I am wasting my time entering a large proportion of them.
For example

  • many are managed houses ( no decision maker within 100 miles).
  • already have excellent marketing, website etc
  • dont have enough money to even buy a keg of lager for opening this evening
  • up for sale and not prepared to make any further investment
and so on...

Call in, look over the bar and if the fridges are fully stocked give em your sales pitch, if empty walk out as you will be wasting your time
Good luck;)
