I agree with a lot of the answers here that social media is the way to go. More specifically Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Try to explore and use social media marketing tools. There are a lot out there and find the best one that fits your need. Create a good strategy/campaign. I suggest that you offer some discount or offer some free stuff to grow your followers and increase your engagement. That's always a good strategy for B2Cs.

If you told us a bit more about your online shop it would be easier to help you. What products and services do you offer? If you want to target younger people, then you should definitely be present on social media. You could also try adwords. But once again, it will be easier to give you advice if you tell us a bit more about your business.

You and others here can't state that social media is the way to go, when you have no idea what the OP is selling or who their target audience is.

Start off with social media platforms by creating a page or site for your online store. Send free samples of your product to influencers, who are either within your industry or related to it in some way. Setting up a business profile on Google+ will also help your business perform better on other Google products.

The best way to promote an online store is by advertising your products on social media.

Facebook, for example, is a great channel to reach lots of new customers. If your store is hosted on a platform that integrates with Facebook you should create a Facebook Store.

Last couple of years, the most I hear is to keep building quality unique content. You cant' outfox google etc etc...2 years later we still only do abut 10% overall sales on our store vs amazon and ebay. So I gave up and am having a go with paid SEO. Problem I have here is I have so many different products and different ways of describing them, it's hard working out the best keywords.

Doesn't work. They want to be paid for promoting your stuff.

No it's not, it's jusrt one way to market your products.

Not any more. Continually adding new content no longer works. Trick is to make sure the core content is spot on.

Fair enough....I had a dilemma with that one actually. The SEO guys were telling me to do stuff with my titles that would then jeapordise my visibility on ebay. I need all 80 characters to pack the essentials in. And some titles are dentical, so they were telling me to add extra stuff. That would mean I would need different titles for my shopify shop to ebay. This just isn't manageable for us. The listing tool takes the shopify title and sends to the channels so on ebay the titles would be truncated half way through a word if more than 80 characters.

    Any thoughts?

If you are using the same titles for both SEO and eBay one or the other will suffer. Far better to create two titles, one for eBay and one that Google can index. No idea if you can do this in Shopify.

Pay for ads.. the right message to the right audience... advert goes to the exact product the message relates too.. don't pay for ads that go directly to an ecom shop. Make sure the ad goes to a specific landing page. One landing page for each unique ad.

Organic Social media for this will make you a busy and broke. Work smart.

You should try two things try writing about your product/services and bring more social signals to the blog page. second you can try out social media promotions(paid and free). This will bring targeted traffic to your website at a comparatively less amount.

I had a super successful online store a few years back and I failed it only because of my big mouth. I was a kid and I didn’t know nothing.

But I did know something. I did know what gave me such an extreme start-up.

I offered a product that no one offered before! Not in my country, not in Europe.

So I immediately got the first place in Google for a variety of keywords, without doing anything at all. No SEO, no nothing.

So the easiest way to skyrocket your stuff obviously is offering a product that’s not being offered in your country!

    Cheers, matey.

When I open first Shopify store, I was rewarding my costumes with low budget keyword products in exchange for a good review with videos and photos. It means a lot to my store and It helps me to grow very fast.
Even if you don't earn anything with that costumer. You got something more valuable. It's costumer that will turn back with her friends or mom and spend more and more!
    Remember that!
    Good luck!

What do you mean by “low budget keyword products”?

Social media with a giveaway may be a good start. At least you might be able to attract people to your account and then, if manage to keep them engaged, you may generate sales.
    How?
If the proposed changes to FB take place nobody will ever see your posts.

SEO will be a big factor, if people are searching fo your products and you're on the front page, you'll be accessing one of the best marketing methods
Only if they are searching for your products on Google. I earn most of my money without google.
