How to grow a telemarketing business?

Hi all. This is my first post. I have been working in various sales jobs since the age of 18. I am 33. In the last year I have been working as a self employed telemarketer for a couple of companies which has led me to the point where I am ready to make a real go of this and give it a go as a freelance telemarketer full time. I have sold across a multitude of sectors with plenty of success.
Does anyone have any experiences they can share or advice for me? What would be the most effective way of me getting enough work? What is the going rate for freelance telemarketing? Has anyone else done this? Any help would be hugely appreciated :)

In my view one way would be to get a first customer (even for almost/free) where results will be great and he will love you. Then you use that as a case study to get a 2nd and 3rd one....repeat and then go up to 5-10 customers until the point where you can now just have referrals and enough case studies to get a more steady stream of business.

Just curious, how do people deal with customers calling back and saying "Can I speak to dale please since i discussed this all with him and he knows what offers i was interested in"

"Oh Dale doesn't work here he was a telemarketer..."

A telemarketer that's no longer here is an employee that's no longer here!

Interestingly, if a telemarketer is properly briefed and managed they will have recorded up-to-date notes of all their conversations. How many other types of employees (including freelancers) can that be said of?

I used the services of an independent telemarketer to sell into the independent food sector. I paid £110 per day. It worked for my little enterprise, though ROI took a while I was pleased overall.

Maybe it should be a little more (this lady was more of a hobbyist I think, and was always working around her kids, at times frustrating for me) and I am sure she never worked full days! But like I say, results were good and that's what matters.

I would suggest a niche, perhaps, but then again, with a well scripted call and positive outlook, i don't see why this is absolutely necessary in telesales work if you come across well on the phone.

Hi Dale

We offer services to quite a few Telemarketing companies and the turnover of staff is quite high, what they do is when some one leaves they forward emails from Dale who has left to the new person they also give the new person Dales ext number and attach all Dales records that he has been working with to the new person. When customers call and asks to speak to Dale they say that he is working in a different department and that you are now dealing with all Dales accounts and then the blurb about how can I help you I have all the info that he discussed with. I personally don't think that the customer needs to know about who leaves or comes as long as they get the service they require from you.
