This is the most common question asked many times in this forum or in the google. You will get various advice at various platforms.
How to bring more traffic depends on your website targets.
You need to figure out what is your target audience and what content will solve their queries by doing search on search engines.
You need to create the content for your visitors not for search engines, what they want from your site is more important and next important thing is, how your website/blog/content able to provide that information to their search.
So, increasing traffic may possible by creating useful and needful content for your audience.

You have to do perform SEO, SEM, SMM tasks for your website.
No you don’t. You really do post some complete twaddle.

There are quite a few ways you can increase traffic to your website.

1. SEO:- Search Engine Optimization:- Its the marketing method to get ranked in search engines so that when people search this will appear.
2. SMO:- Social Media Optimization:- SMO is using the power of social media to get traffic and awareness with engaging organic content and reaching a bigger amount of followers.
3. SMM:- Social Media Marketing:- Social media marketing includes all the sponsored ads of social media like Facebook and Twitter. You can just create a website clicks campaign there to generate traffic.
4. SEM:- Search Engine Marketing:- It is the Pay Per Click ads of Google, you can either do text ads or you can go for display banners, depends as per your budget and requirement.

I think the main questions should be: Why?
  • why do you need more traffic? As that will define the overall marketing strategy or approach.
  • why should people visit your website in the first place? What's in it for them?

There are different ways you can get traffic, and based on the answers above, you can combine them to create a strategy for your business.

  1. Google Ads
    The fastest way to get traffic is advertising, as you're tapping into that market of people already looking for a service or product you're offering.

  2. Facebook Ads
    Same as above. If you have money to spend, Facebook can bring you a lot of traffic, however, the strategy should be different because people are not on facebook to buy. You only assume that they might be interested in your service based on certain interests.

    The best is to use facebook ads together with a sales funnel, to generate leads. Also promoting education content, blog posts in this case, can work great, as the commitment is not that high, you're not asking them to buy, you're only asking them to read your article.

  3. Organic SEO.

    This doesn't happen overnight, but with a proper SEO strategy, you can start ranking for certain keywords => therefore that will bring you more traffic to those pages / your website.

  4. Social Media

    Obviously people are using facebook, twitter, etc.. so it's a no brainer that you should go, where your potential customers are. Same as with your ads, the trick is to have the right strategy, because if you ask them to buy your service, and post a link to your website, I doubt many will come, however, if you write a nice article: "5 tips on how to..." that will definitely grab people's attention.

  5. Content Marketing.

    Pretty much everything mentioned above is somehow related to creating content, blog posts, etc..

    - This helps you with the overall SEO. You can do keyword research, and strategically tap into certain keywords that can bring you more traffic.
    - When you use facebook ads, the first part of any sales funnel is to educate your prospects, position yourself as an expert, so what a better way to do that than blog posts or videos
    - same goes with organic social media, while you're creating content for your website, you can use social media, to promote that content, and get more traffic to your website.

  6. Video Marketing / Youtube

    Easier said than done, but youtube can be another great way to educate your prospects, offer them value based content and from there you can have links to your website , or perhaps a freebie.
