Networking is a great tool. Forums such as this one appear to provide a way to connect with professionals in the designated country of your choice. From there, locals can tell you more about ways to expand your connections and build your brand.

What is your business and what country are you thinking of targeting?

The simplest way is to contact the British embassy in that country and speak or contact the trade secretary
After that your local Chamber of Commerce will be able to get information from various contacts with other chambers
This is the simplest and most effective method, but in practice I can say that the Chamber of Commerce has a number of disadvantages that may not work in your favor in the long run. In addition, the "confidentiality" of business when working through the Chamber of Commerce is very conditional. In my opinion, a chamber of commerce and industry is suitable for large businesses, but not for medium or small ones.

I´m located in Germany and 35 years in Buisiness

If somebody is looking for something because of the change because of Brexit in my area I´m happy to help if I can

I know that some companies from UK set up a business in Germany, Belgium, Netherland or France to supply their mainland customers in future

What is needed first of all in order to increase the coverage of your business in other countries?
The same thing that is needed to increase the coverage of any business in other markets. You need to be more specific and descriptive here. What do you mean by coverage? Do you want to increase your capability to serve more customers in other countries or you want to just acquire more customers there?

Joining business forums, listing in international and local business directories, networking through social media such as Facebook and LinkedIn may help. As a third party inspection company based in Hong Kong, we have connected with many foreign companies and online ecommerce sellers who need inspection services in China through those sources. Any business can reach out to overseas customers through the Internet.

Its difficult to respond without knowing the specifics of your business. My company sells b2b and we gain international enquiries through our website. If you have a compelling service offering, you may be able to test the water online.

If you want to gain traction in overseas markets the embassy/consulate in the country you are targetting can be a good place to start, as others have said. Chambers of Commerce will work with businesses of all sizes, whether they are any good is down to the individual chamber. We've taken part in a number of trade missions. In normal (none COVID) times, these are a great way to get a feel for a country.

If you are looking for general information about a country, the CIA (yes really) have a lot of online country facts (e.g. population, demographics etc) as you would expect, it has an American viewpoint.
