How to find UK company information

You can look on Companies House although for small companies the information they need to publish these days is restricted, for example they may well not have a profit & loss account included, just a balance sheet, so you only get a feel for the assets of the company rather than the revenue stream. Remember that the accounts for a private company, at least, can be filed up to nine months after the financial year end so can be quite out of date. You can also get reports from credit reference agencies but again the information will be restricted where the company is small. Companies can now also file "filleted accounts" at Companies House instead of the full accounts that the shareholders are entitled to and this further restricts the information available.

If you're based in London, you can go to the British Library IP and Business Centre and have access for free to their databases where you can look companies detailed financial profiles up (if limited companies).
You can also use credit scoring companies to have access to financial information (e.g., CreditSafe).
Hope it helps,
Caroline

Depends on the type of company. They could be a sole trader and sole traders are not required to register on companies house. What you will find are companies that are a limited company or limited liability partnership.

No. Sole Traders are sole traders and not companies, they are businesses.

The OP's question was how to find out information on British Companies, not sole traders.
