Simply using keywords or anchor text linking is not a very good way of building backlinks. As said you need to make it look natural and link to varied phrases and long tail keywords.

Try different approach then link building - invest in great, interesting content. Then people will share your pages on social networks, blogs etc.

And if you want links it's better to invest some time and come up with a list of blogs in your niche. Then contact authors of the blogs and ask them to link to some of your interesting page. Or offer to write a good blog post for them in exchange for the link to the authors website.

In my experience, this is much better way to build website reputation.
