How to check Google searches?

Is there anyway I can check how many times a particular term has been searched on Google e.g David Beckham, Nike etc?

Yes, Google Trends fulfills this role:

Although the information is rather surface level.

You can use paid tools to estimate the number of searches but they will only ever be estimates.

Consider also that people more often search using phrases. For example: 'Where does David Beckham live' or 'buy cheap Nike jordans'.
