Hello,

I have just launched a new b2c online shop. I want to advertise this new venture off line but I am worried that I might have to wait until Google actually finds the site. I have been told it takes approx. 6 weeks until the crawlers will find the site. At the moment, the site is only accessible when typing the url directly into the browser.

Any tips would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Post your URL on forums that allow it & that is inkeeping with what you sell.

I did this & got on first page of google within 2 weeks, I allso got baned from a few sites for doing this because i dident read the rules on some of them so make suar you are allowed to add your url :)

make suar you have lots of content not just pitchers

As sort of suggested, you need to get an inbound link to the site. Ideally this needs to be from somewhere Google actually visits on a regular basis.

However, depending on the size of the site is can still take weeks for google to index the whole site. And it's quite likely you will only get a small percentage of the site in the index on the first go. Some sites still don't have all thier products listed years after launch.

1) Have well written content so Google has something to index
2) use google webmasters and upload a sitemap
3) Get some links to your website, the best bet is directories and forums that are related to what you do. Don't just spam forums (like the indians do) and hope you get a few nibbles. Get relevant links.
4) Keep an eye on Google Webmasters, it will tell you when Google has indexed your site.

2)... upload a sitemap
This won't help. The sitemap doesn't increase indexing speed, all it does is make G aware of any changes so that the next it does index it knows which pages to look at. You also need to be sure you have set up the sitemap correctly (if you even need one), if the you haven't got the importance right you can really hurt your ranking (as many on this forum have discovered).

times til crawl vary greatly depending on several things, mainly your IP, if you get any half decent links & if you've assigned google webmaster tools (google.com/webmaster) (also obv submit to google (google.com/addurl) if you do these you can sometimes get a new site seen in its entirety within a week ... io have known new sites with no history and none of the above take upto 6 months to start to be seen.

if you need help getting seen contact me so I can advise you further

Hi Trixie,

It really depends on site links and popularity.

If you'd like give me your URL and I will write a quick post on my sites blog, something like "Doing a website appraisal for www.blah.com" and possibly add some of your relevant keywords.

Every new post I publish on our blog is usually indexed by Google within 5 mins.

Hello iKreativ,

what a nice idea. may I ask what your blog is? I just would want to make sure it is relevant to our website which is a new ladies fashion brand.

Regards,
trixie

Hey Trixie,

No problem, I'll write a quick post stating that I'm doing a website appraisal or something to get a link in there.

Also, this won't be helping you:
<meta name="keywords" content="Vela Blu - Casual Luxe" />

That's your keywords...

Okay Trixie, I added a quick post for you.

"We’re just doing a website appraisal for Vela Blu. Vela Blu is a UK mail order company specialising in luxury women’s clothing and stylish ladies casual clothing online. They have asked us to take a look at their website in regards to SEO."

You'll be indexed soon! :)
