Hi,

I thought of asking this question before I had taken this out but oh well my fault if it fails.

Tomorrow between 8am and 1pm I am having BT installed at my home which is TV, Phone & Internet now the package for the Internet and Phone are really important to me so have I made the right choice. I am currently with Virgin Media.

Unlimited Internet
Unlimited Calls to Landlines.
All the packages on TV
£38.45 a month.

We have BT internet, phone and BT Vision and would recommend it to anyone. We have had 2 issues of the internet not working but that was down to a faulty cable coming into the house and a fault at the local exchange.

We have been on for nearly 2 years and only them 2 issues, price is a little more than sky and Tiscali but we do get high speeds and brilliant reliability.

We had Infinity installed a couple of months ago.

There was a warning with the booking details that we had to be present for the morning of the installation and if we failed to be there we would be charged an £85 penalty.

The day before the appointment we received an e-mail reminding us that it was a imperative we were there for the appointment or we would incur the £85 penalty ...........

....... on the day of the appointment it was BT who never turned up!

I can't understand why anyone would want to use BT for anything.

Could not agree more, I hate BT. They are shocking at delivering their service, the way they deal with your complaints and the have a nasty habit of overcharging. Definately a contender for worst company in Britain.

A friend of mine currently has an issue for example with BT. He wants to install Sky broadband at his home in an apartment block. Sky have told him that they need BT to do something so they can take over the line or something i'm not entirely sure of the exact detail, but my friend has so far made 9 appointments for a BT engineer to attend his home along with aSky engineer and 9 times BT has failed to turn up with no explanantion!!

i have to agree with the above.

i am (alas) still with BT as when i signed up i signed up for a 3 year contract on a business one plan. my thinking being that such a large compny woudl be the most reliable but could not have been more wrong.

have had numerous problems with my internet: it cuts out at least once a day whcih is awful if you are filling in forms etc on line. the worst time it was down for about a month off-and-on. i had 4 people come round and was sent 3 different routers before it was eventually fixed.

can't wait for my contract to end.

After 28 years as a loyal bt customer, we recently had their infinity broadband "upgrade". After the first few weeks, the speed dropped to 1-10mb, the useless offshore call center lied to us blatantly and were even caught out by their own stupidity. After many hours on the phone, missed appointments, no broadband at all for 14 days, i gave up and tore them a new arse-hole over the phone. They buckled and cancelled all my contracts free of charge and we went to sky for all services.

The speed is way lower at 2.5mb BUT it is so stable that it appears to be faster than the infinity rubbish!!! No problems since.

Oh, and its half the price of BT's rubbish, plus sky only have UK call centers which is very important to me.

i would never recommend bt to anyone BUT i would recommend everyone have a look at their support forum to see the complaints

Just off the comments I might cancel I only lose £10 which was the upfront payment.

What about SKY
Why not just stick with your current provider. Are Virgin really that bad that you want to risk losing your telephone/internet for an indeterminate period?

Sky's been good for me also. Reliable connection, speed isnt amazing but thats due to my location and us being last on the list to be upgraded to fibre optics. I know others who use Sky with great connections so dont let that put you off.

Support are always very nice and helpful, and I've been onto them maybe 5 or 6 times in the past 3 years, always been great. UK call centres too, which seem to be either based in Scotland, or they employ a lot of Scottish people :p

They normally have good packages on offer, we use them for phone, internet and TV.

I had my home broadband with SKY and it was the only time I haven't had a problem with my internet. I have since moved house and we decided to go with o2 as we could get a cheap deal being mobile customers of theirs and they were rated quite highly in their supply of BB. Sadly o2 have been rubbish! The connection times out/refreshes every 4/5 minutes meaning u lose connection for 10/15 seconds. This is rather irratating to say the least and more so when I indulge in some down time playing online xbox with my younger brother. o2 have failed to fix the problem and the staff in their call centres have next to no idea what they are talking about. I will be changing to SKY shortly when my year is up with o2.
Moral of the story...I should have stuck with SKY.

we were on Virgin for phone/bb and tv and had no problems whatsoever for best part of 10 ys. Went to change to SKY this year because of getting footy for our son and all was well until I realised that with the SKY package I would be using BT - NO CHANCE!!! they are the last provider on earth I would deal with. So we went to SKY for the TV and kept with Virgin for the BB and phone - a bit dearer but theres no way I will have BT...

Oooh don't get me started!! BT.....every time I have used them personally or in business they have nearly crippled me! Our business phones/fax/bb were switched off a month too early when we were moving. When we did move they couldn't complete new installation in time, they checked we had service to the new premises well in advance, yes fine no problem they said, when we get there...no phone lines, guess what, the lines they said were here are actually next doors! Wait for authorisation for different BT man to go up pole and get us some wires, eventually got business service. Just moved house and guess what, couldn't get phone or BB working for over two weeks, something to do with the wrong type of telegraph pole and trees being in the way. Two departments each blaming the other....just get it sorted pleeeeease I cried!! January this year, incoming lines should be 4, we are down to 2, it took them 4 months to resolve the issue. I had an independant phone engineer tell me the problem within a week and it took them 4 months to fix it, customers complaining all over the place, staff can't get outside lines!!!! I would never recommend them if they were the last provider on earth !!!
(Incidentally before you ask why I continued to use them, I had no choice but to use them on the above occasions!)

At my last house, BT "connected" the telephone line but alas when I tried the line there was no connection! So I called BT who told me it was working fine because they could test it remotely and there was no problem so the problem is most likely my telephone handset and I should try another. So of course I went and bought a new phone and what a surprise there was still no dial tone. I called BT again and this time suggested to them that perhaps the engineer had connected the wrong house? NO that cant happen was the reply, completely impossible infact!
It took 3 months for me to get BT to agree to send an engineer, all the while I was without a phone line and internet and I ran my business from home at the time so U can imagine the damage that did! The engineer came out and guess what....yep! The first engineer had done the impossible and connected the line to the wrong property!

Did I ever get any reimbursement for the 3 months line rental and connection fee they charged me? Did i get any compensation for having no telephone line or internet and the loss of business i suffered and loss of faith with my customers?? No of course I didn't!!!

Steer well clear of BT!!!!!
