My cpanel is showing almost full disk space used so I am planning to backup my email and clear off all email on server.

Is it possible to transfer all email from my domain to gmail/hotmail or is there a better way?

Cheers!

I'm assuming you are using an IMAP connection to collect your emails, POP connections aren't usually configured to leave emails on the server.

It's possible to copy mailbox contents using the IMAPSync command line tool: https://imapsync.lamiral.info/

It should also be possible to copy using your local email client. Most can connect to more than one mailbox and as long as your old and new mailboxes are set up as IMAP connections, any that allow you to copy emails from one mailbox to another would do the work for you.

If you have a cpanel you probs also have an ftp facility, usually cpanel will have a backup feature (you may need to install this as an addon). If the created backup file is placed in your private folder use ftp to d/load it or it may offer a d/load on creation option.
Simplest way is forward all the emails to another facility such as gmail.

How do you read your emails? Downloaded to client (e.g. Outlook) or Gmail, or via cPanel?

So, yo have 2 copies - one on cPanel and one on live - hey presto, you have a mirror (not backup) of your emails!

If you connect via IMAP and delete the cPanel stuff, they will probably be deleted from Live. If POP3, they should not be deleted.

Also, if you didn't already know, if using POP3, cPanel probably will not have a copy of your sent messages!

Ok i have just done this on mine, for future reference here are the steps i took:

Log in to Cpanel
Click on File Manager (in the files section)
Select Home or \ as the entry point (one above \public)
In the right pane look for 'mail'
Right click on the actual word 'mail' in the right pane and select 'compress'
Choose your prefered method, i used .zip
Wait for the zip to be created and close the notification box
Look for the new file it created (in this case mail.zip)
Left click once on the new file to select it (it should have the highlighted bar on it)
Top of screen on the buttons click 'Download'

You should now have a compressed backup of all your emails in you downloads folder on your pc.
Hope that helps.
