In a nutshell you need one of the following:
- A freelance brand/logo designer (so graphics artist with experience producing logos and brands) - generally lower cost
- An interactive/advertising/digital agency who handle brand design (and also have brand experience) - generally higher cost
You can find one of these:
1. By posting on the tenders forum here
2. By checking the directory
3. Talking to one of the friendly people who posted on this thread or may have sent you a PM
4. Using google to search for these types of provider and seeing what crops up; the big agencies are normally up top though; so expect a mortgage or unrealistic providers there (possibly)
5. Going to the places where such artists hang out, like:

http://www.dribbble.com/
And finding someone on one of those sites (of which there are many, many more examples - those are big sites though).

Was in a similar situaion myself, who to use, how much should I pay, etc. I can now personally recommend using 99designs.co.uk (trust I am allowed to post the url, new to this great forum) Graphic designers submit designs you like based on your requirements and you only pay when you're satisfied with the graphic. Hope this helps.

I'd also add to avoid speculative work because you'll find designers aren't matching the brand image to your business. Capable designers do tend to avoid speculative jobs.
But then, that depends on what you need and what your expectations are I guess.
I think dribbble is a nice site to find good artists, the standards there are pretty high.

I stand corrected, perhaps 99Designs have changed their pricing structure.
I seem to remember when we had our first logo done having the choice of guaranteeing the contest. With the guaranteed contest you guaranteed to pick and pay for a design. With the free contest if you didn't like any of the designs you didn't pay a penny.
Still £99 deposit's not bad... is it? Out of interest what's your budget for the logo Wedding Heaven?

Having just recently bought two logo jobs via different methods, I thought I'd share my experiences.
I hired one designer from People Per Hour http://www.peopleperhour.com where I contacted a few designers and then picked one. This worked out well but I felt the designer brings an idea or two and then works through revisions. You don't get that initial variation to start with. I paid £100 for this, though I could have paid more or less for fewer or additional services.
The other job was on Logoguru http://www.logoguru.co.uk where it is much more structured. Around £130 (they try to get you to add more and feature it etc.) for a logo, £195 or so for a logo and stationary. Much more than the £25 guys but for that you get much more creative input. You might get 100 concepts and from there you whittle them down to your final one. It does take some managing though to keep on top of feedback.
Overall I preferred the Logoguru type. The costs were higher, significantly so in percentage terms than the minimum you would have to pay on PPH but in absolute terms, you are talking £50/100 at most. For the depth of submissions, I think that is worth it.

However, I would advise that you select 2 or 3 designers, request examples of previous branding work and ask how they would approach your project. It's also best to provide them with a brief from which they can quote. It's normally best to use the designer you feel most comfortable with, not necessarily the one quoting the cheapest price. A well designed and distinctive logo will give you a huge visible advantage in the marketplace and should last your business a lifetime.
