My wife is going on maternity leave on monday for 12 months (alright for some;)), she has quite a well paid job in the nhs.

If for whatever reason money becomes tight she will have to go back to work early, which she does not want to do.

I am after a home based business/job which would generate around £400+ per month, i am not bothered about building it up to be something big, or the longevity of it. She just want's to make a bit, to supplement her drop in wages(still gets paid just reduced amount).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?:)

If you are looking for a company to provide a homebased job, I would recommend you to beauty and food companies such as Agel, herbalife, victoria beauty products.... These companies sell you products for £160 and in turn you sell them for a higher peice and make profit and every one you introduce to the company, you 'll get 10% of the profit he sells fro mthe company.

In other words, it's a pyramid level company that in long term, you wouldn't need to work since all the people below you will be generating £1000s and you get the profit. This depends on how many you introduce and sell.

In my opinion go for your own business, sit alone and try to think what your society your living in needs from the simplest things, and from there you will grow step by step.

We are in the same boat, my lady is off for 12 months from June which is why we have kept the website going, we almost sold it not so long ago.

To be honest you're going to find it hard to find something that will give you £400 per month just like that. Building up a business doesn't happen overnight.

I checked your Website gasangel...
I would suggest you work on it by widening the service and concentrating your work on it since you are both home. If you look at the UK market, it volatile and every company is introducing many services that are even not in there domain
ex: Tesco strated as massive supermarkets, to insurance to selling music to comparison websites and so on

Unless you are pretty well versed in SEO you will struggle to get on page 1 for your chosen product with a new site.

You could consider buying an existing site that maybe has traffic ,but not turning much of a profit.

But be very careful in what and who you choose .

Avoid pyramid schemes that promise easy money like Herbalife, only those close to the top of the pyramid ever make any real money.

Why not sit down with your wife, make a list of skills and interests and see if you can marry any of them. For example, your wife might have good consultancy skills in a particular area that could earn her a temporary contract back with the Nhs, or maybe she has a hobby making stuff which you could turn into a business.

Don't know what it is your wife does but can she offer something similar from home?

Other options are: proofreading, private tutoring, envelope stuffing...

Others make money from writing poetry, short stories and reviews for the local papers.

What sort of commitment would anyone have to a job that lasts a maximum of say 11 months, maybe loads at week one but on the run down??

She may be better just going to a temp agency

If you set up a business what sort of service would you offer your customers, "Hi there I can sell you this" and then "sorry we no longer bother"

Sorry more interested in people who want to change their life fulltime or change it around

I have a business which we both work hard on and that gets 100% of our attention.
The business has trebbled in size within 18 months, so please dont question my customer service or anything else for that matter.

She simply wanted to make a bit extra money, whats wrong with that, she does not want to give up her job or turn her life around, her life is fine.

I am pretty sure you dont have to dedicate you life to something and give up everything in order to generate £400 a month.

It might be the case that she does not need to get a job during her maternity leave, its just a back up in case the business is not making as much as we would like in 6-9 months time, the other option of course is for her just to go back to work early.

Just after some ideas, not a lecture on business attitude

Blogging can be profitable but you need to get the visitors in. The high paying advertisers will only pay premium rates if you can demonstrate thousands of visitors per day. And if you are just wrting about your fondnwess for coat hooks I can't see this happening. If your wife likes writing then short stories or poetry is always popular and can bring in a some good money. There are a number of organisations who publish this sort of material, I've just done a quick search on google and there's loads of publishers looking for new talent.
