HMV Employees Take to Official Twitter to Expose Secrets

Looks like their higher-ups got control of it again. It feels a bit voyeuristic but it is fascinating to see what happens when a big organisation starts to crumble. It's happened a lot to some big game production studios in the States recently (including this dramatic collapse) and some of the post mortem reports are eye-opening and pretty shocking.

It's certainly very interesting and does pose the question - to keep or not to keep? I mean these are real people with real stories that a lot of people can sympathise with. IMO I think HMV should have left the Tweets and perhaps used them to personify and confirm what is actually going on.

HMV has handled the situation poorly, it just proves how badly run the company is/was. The writing has been on the wall for the past decade and they have still failed to innovate! Amazing.

I think it's genius.

I previously worked for a digital consultancy and we've had to battle with many different companies about the importance of social media with them saying 'oh, we'll just give it to the new intern'.

She's proved how influential and important her job role is and honestly I think HMV have gone down the pan because they haven't been listening to people like her who genuinely have a real insight into customers and trends.

Personally, I'm not a follower of trends or fashions but for a company as large as HMV was you'd have thought they'd be well into the social media frenzy.

"People" i.e. Customers talk, the likes of Facebook, twitter, linkedin etc are all tools that enable people to communicate across the world, surely a company such as HMV would have seen that and thought Hang on, we can work with this... obviously not it would appear.

Stupid does as stupid does I guess. :)

I think it is sad news about the loss of peoples jobs..I like HMV and was in a store at the weekend and it is a shame..with regards to people using social media to vend some anger.. I am sure we have all done this whether we have had a bad day at the office or a friend has annoyed us etc..however you do need to be careful what we voice on these sites...and who has access to these accounts too.

HMV refused to keep up with the times. They tried to have their version of iTunes that you could use on other mp3 players but you could not keep the songs you paid for!

They disappeared after so many plays, and didn't give the option to burn a CD.

They should have set up their own DVD rental service before Netflix or LoveFilm, but they were too slow. And now everyone uses the internet to do what they did in the high street.

I do enjoy these little social media blunders. I do think that HMV should have kept the Tweets live though - it really brought light to the actual realness of the situation and was gained them thousands of followers and mentions within the hour. I just think that the public already knew what was going on and I'm sure most of us actually appreciated the transparency and felt compassion for the employees of HMV.
