I`ve googled...but completely blank on what/who to use...anyone have any suggestions on the best package to use...had experience

OpenOffice's Powerpoint equivalent Impress has the ability to import some Powerpoint files and features, and then export to either a Flash file or a PDF.

Another vote for Impress. It will struggle with some of the more esoteric bits of PPT but you probably shouldn't be using those bits anyway!

Alternatively, go via youtube and then save back from there - it's not elegant but it works!
