Help please, redundancy

Hi,

I would be really grateful for any suggestions and advice anyone could give me on this, I don’t really know where to start.

My mum owns a hairdressing salon and has one employee who has worked for her for 16 years, but is now only working one and a half days a week. The salon operated at a loss last year and it has come to the point where her employee is not an asset to the business. Where would we need to start to initiate redundancy for this employee and how much would she be required to receive in monetary compensation for this?

Thank you in advance, any nudge in the right direction would be a massive help!

Thank you

Thanks for the replies, so I think she is due about £1,138.80 if I worked that out right. I think she is due a notice period of 12 weeks?

My mum won’t be employing another stylist so yes the position will be no longer. Although we may consider sub-letting space in the salon for perhaps a beautician
