Help needed to source the best online company email system

hi there

we would like to find a good online email system

so that

- we can deal with customer emails from any location
- and from any computer in the office
- and keep emails up to date
- and all in the same location

so gmail is obviously an option
but are there any other obvious front runners that anyone has used?

any tips and suggestions very gratefully received

cheers

T

There's Zimbra as well, which is a paid email solution.

If you're not precious about using cloud based services then GMail or Microsoft live can't really be beaten for feature packed services that are very cheap to run. You can move your own domain to them now and you can collaborate calendering and document syncing etc as well as accessing your email and calendar from anywhere.

Most of the main mobile phones will also connect in seamlessly with pre-installed connectors.

Just to add something else into the mix. A very good cheap option we still use is 1and1.co.uk's email service. You can pay for proper Exchange email boxes but the basic plans can use IMAP (Server hosted email) and to be honest we have never had a problem with them in over 4 years.

You can use your own domain as either a full web/email package or just as an email service.

The answer is based on whether you want to manage the server yourself or use a hosted service.

I found gmail/google apps the best solution for several of my businesses (have a look at this little write up), but, as Davek17 says, MS/hotmail is catching up. These allow you to send/receive email from your own domain.

Running your own server, well, it has to be Zimbra or Scalix!

Having said that, there are hundreds of other system, so your host may offer, like Horde groupware. Not as graphically nice as all of the previous, but rock solid!
