Hi,

This is a long shot but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Does anyone have a viable ideas to source some extra income? I work 9-5, have childcare to pay for, bills to pay and a house to run (who dosent?!). But I am working on a first draft if my buisness plan in the evenings and I could do with some line of additional income in the evenings.

I was thinking about blogging, has anyone done this and is it worth while? Or free lance sales?

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Sarah xx

You won't get a good income from blogging anymore. Adsense is kind of dead for low/medium sized blogs.

What do you mean by freelance sales?

Cheaper countries (india mostly) have taken over online freelancing, so you will struggle to even get a job, let alone one that pays more than a few quid per hour.

And if you need continual money, then it may not be the best to start a business, running a business doesn't necessarily mean you will get rich quick.

Can you not reduce your bills, budget more, downsize etc.

There is also Avon, Yellow pages(?), leafleting, weekend work.

What skills do you have?

Blogging is definitely not a way to earn money in the short term. Similarly, many lines of business will require some kind of upfront costs, so may not be the best option in your circumstances. Maybe you could try selling some stuff you no longer need/want on ebay and earn some extra cash that way - if it goes well you could make it into more of a business.

As above, what skills you have is an important question to ask yourself here.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I work full time in retail buying, I would say my best skill is my ability to communicate with people, build relationships quickly. I play and coach sports and obviously bringing up my children.

I just thought if I could find something to do in the evenings to help generate some additional income that I can use to develop an idea I have had into a product. I do have funds to invest upfront but any additional income would benefit.

I have been researching drop shipping companies that provide products I can sell on Amazon/EBay. Avon sounds interesting, I can get the kids out helping! Will defo look in to it

As SavageUK suggested, Avon is potentially a great money maker.

My mum started her part-time job a few months back and does Avon on the side. It won't make you a millionaire but it can certainly contribute to paying the bills.
What does she do for Avon exactly? I've seen it advertised and never understood what they want you to do etc?

But eBay shops, leaflet dropping

But eBay shops, leaflet dropping

You drop a catalog around your local area and customers choose what they want and then you order it for them. There must be some internet involvement now im sure but don't know what exactly

Hi Sarah,
Knitting and selling on etsy (or any other craft things), envelope stuffing, take in ironing, sports coaching (as already suggested), private tuition, telesales, proof reading, write articles for magazines, cook and sell cakes, run evening classes at the local adult education.

There are loads of ways to make extra cash. You local free newspaper will have classifieds offering work from home type jobs.

Hi Sarah,

Reading through your skills . . . I thought I'll find out if you are interested in commission only sales of personalised wedding favour (soy candles)

The personalised wedding favour includes
1. Minimum of 120 soy candles in a gorgeous honeycombed glass jar.
2. The label on the glass jar would have a combination of bride and grooms message and names and sentelles' details.
3. The bride has the choice of colour and fragrance . . . the fragrance can either be a choice from the website or her choice as long as it is a similar cost to the fragrances we sell.

If you are interested send me a pm and I'll give you more details.

Best wishes,

funmi

I love writing so it's a great opportunity to write blogs/content/copy etc and get paid. Fingers crossed it works out
You do realise you are going to be paid a pittance for this. You would make more money knitting beanies than you will writing for PPH.

Hi Sarah,

I've just started my own social media marketing company after being involved in it through my network of twitter accounts with over a quarter of a million followers.

I've just started a new website which, after owning accounts on twitter, made me realise the potential for the type of site. It's a method used by a select few who know how to do it and it could make me a lot of money, especially considering I have the following online to be taken seriously as a business.

I can't explain much here, obviously, but I have been on the lookout for someone to help on the site which can be done at any point of the day and requires no skill at all.

If you're interested in talking more, send me a message. If not, good luck with your search!
