Help - 123reg web forwarding - White Page!

I have a domain name with 123-reg, I've had it for about 5 years.

For 5 years I have had it pointing to my index.html on my website hosting space.

For the last 5 years it has all worked fine, every time i typed the domain it took me to the index page.

Here is the problem.
Recently, after my clients telling me they cannot access my site, the domain name is not working with Internet Explorer, It just shows a white page. It works fine with every other browser.

I have tried checking all the settings in 123reg control panel and it tells me that they are all correct.

Can anyone think why it works fine on all other browsers, but suddenly not with Internet Explorer?

Any help would be appreciated.

(It won't let me post the urls for you to try until I have 15 posts)

Just post the URL with a space between the domain name and dot com/co.uk bit

I don't think is has anything to do with 123reg, you are using frames and IE doesn't like them anymore.

http://www.musicdelights.20m.com/index.html works just fine.

Get rid of the frames by setting up the 123reg redirect properly and you will find the site getting fully indexed by google.

Even better, grab all the pages from 20m.com and load then onto your own domain. The US hosting is sending all the wrong signals to the search engines.

Works fine here on IE9 and Firefox but not in IE8

Couple of reasons why I think it might be happening:

1) Capitalisation - The file name for the domain redirect does not match those of the actual destination url
2) File type - Your redirect is set to index.htm where the file name is index.html...

123-reg should be able to sort this, as it's their system which you're paying to use.

I would say that in the long run it might be worth moving the website to your domain instead of a redirect. It will help your seo (being on your own domain) and you won't need to worry about redirecting the domain.

domain is musicdelights. co. uk

it should point to :- musicdelights. 20m. com/ index.html
It works in IE9 but not in compatability mode.

But urgh - the forwarding is using horrible 100% frames - thats doing nothing for the search engine positioning and possibly losing visitors because of the frames.

Why not just buy your own hosting pack? One like our hobby package will only cost you £11.99 but make a huge difference.

OK, I have removed frames and now it seems to be working fine at my end.

I'll be in the process of moving my hosting soon to UK servers but in the mean time thank for your help guys.

I'm just a bit puzzled as to why the forwarding worked fine for years with frames switched on, but only recently stopped working.

Hi Steve,

I work on behalf of 123-reg.

Glad to hear that you have resolved your issue.

I agree that the cause of the issue is that IE no longer likes the use of frames.

As you know 123-reg now offers 301 web forwarding via the 123-reg control panel which is a permanent redirect and therefore more SEO friendly.

Regards,

Ricky
