Hello to the North West

Hiya Stephen

Welcome to the forums, you will enjoy your time here, I'm sure of it. Plenty advice to be had, good folks to network with, and have a laugh too.

I've an idea what it is you do Stephen, but feel free to sell your service on here & educate everyone.

I remember watching one of them horrible reality (isn't that a misnomer?) TV shows about a 'lifestyle consultant' - needless to say he was from Wagville Wilmslow - who modelled himself as Britains vainest man. Now I'm no Cary Grant (just voted the most stylish man ever, with Beckham second) but I would have thought for someone that name-dropped Posh & all the other 'celebrities' and supposedly earned a 'fortune' advising folk on style, he'd have at least been able to realise what a twonk he looked & sounded?

Still, I'm all for good grooming and smartening the nation up, so it's a good niche I feel - plenty work out there if the nylon-bedecked oiks I see around are anything to go by.

Good post elsewhere on here Stephen about is a suit required for an entrepreneur, what do you think?

BTW folks - 14th August - proposed NW meet, see thread elsewhere for poll. Good opportunity for all the new members to meet up?

Good luck for your business :)

BTW, you may want to change your main text font on the site, I found it a little fuzzy to read - or maybe that's the 8 coffees I just had

Thanks, nice to get a little feedback, where is this other post?

Suits for entrepreneurs are not a straight forward yes/no answer, it is dependant on the individual, are they male or female, what does their job entail physically, and what are the general expectations of their trade.

For me, I wear a suit, or during the summer, a shirt and trousers, as I feel comfortable, professional, and never under dressed when meeting a client.
My business is image, so my own, has to be, pardon the pun, Perfect.

I believe suits portray professionalism, but they have to be the right suit, one that is fitted, in the right shade for the individual, and matched with a nice pair of shoes, quality shirt, and tie, if worn.
All suits should be paired with a good watch too.

But, suits aren't practical for all, as someone running their own business which involves any kind of manual labour could not keep a suit looking how it needs to be to maintain maximum effect.

I agree with your comments above, think I found a kindred spirits.

So, what's your preferred brands, personally?

If you had to buy one shirt, one suit, one pair of shoes, one tie, one pair of jeans, and one watch, and your life depended it, which brand would you pick for each?

BTW, if ever you need to make a good impression travelling to clients, or shopping days, or maybe you've clients visiting the area, we can help with your passenger transportation needs (shameless plug ends here)

i have a really bad obsession with vintage adidas stuff! Bar that, and possibly Vivienne Westwood, oh and Breitling. I am not into brands. They complete a look as an individual piece, but for me I can make you look just as good with H&M clothes.
But I'll have a go. Ill do budget, and loaded.

Shirts, I love Zara, they feel as good as they look, come in great fits, and are fantastic value, for loaded, Gucci, worn without a tie and a couple of buttons open, they make anybody look hot, and are perfect for summer.

Suits, well, Slaters are great for suits, on a budget, free tailoring is a must, because I have yet to see anyone have a great fitting suit that has just come off the shelf. Doesn't happen. If you have the money, and are from the North West, then Nicholas Jones, in Manchester make you a suit that will rival anything you'll find on Saville Row. Not feeling that, then a black D&G, tailored, will never go far wrong.
Ties are ties, relatively cheap, and just an accessory, just ensure it is silk.
Jeans need more info than just jeans, ie smart casual night wear, what styles, too many variations, until you meet the person.
Watches, I have a strange fetish for. I own, well too many, for the discerning businessman, I would recommend a Breitling, or a Mont Blanc, depending on the build, and lifestyle of the individual.
Missed out shoes. I like shopping for shoes on the high-street, my grandfather wears bespoke shoes, but I don't see the point. As long as they are leather, and the sole is solid, then its all about finding the right pair for you.

Watches and shoes though, should be quite hefty investments.

Hope that helps!!

Hi Stephen,

Just a quick thought. I have just visited your web site, nice design but something is missing. If you are offering this kind of service the first place of contact with your client will be your web site, so it should be definitely your strong point. It looks good, much better than a lot of other new businesses web sites, but just think how much better it would be if potential client could see on your site some examples of your work. Why not to take one of members of your team (or a friend) and dress them, show your design skills. Or why not to make your web site in form of gallery with some additional descriptions. I think that your picture of your Team is a really good idea, but if you would add some more graphics it would look so much better.

'Before and after' is a good idea as long as you can keep it look realistic, it will only work when it will convince client that it could be him, that this makeover could be about his style.

If your work is mostly about style and fashion, your web site should be about fashion as well. You can have a look at templatemonster and look for some web site template that would suite your service and that you could adapt to your needs. Keep it simple but stylish - black and white colours works the best and will always make a good, professional impression.

I would not advice pictures from 'team in action'. I will insist that your web site is here the most important thing, especially that you have a good domain name. If you will convince clients that you know what you do, you will win them. I think a couple of photos with detailed description where the clothes are coming from (e-bay, e-shop, high street shop etc.) would show that you exactly know how to build somebody's image and that you can use all possible kind of sources.

Let me give you some tip ;) Did you think about publishing on your web site a separate part with 'tips and tricks' of fashion, so how to avoid mistakes, how to use different materials and clothes combinations. Put couple of them for the start and update it from time to time. If you are into fashion, why not to post news from fashion world, put some pictures of designer clothes, news from market, new trends etc. It will increase your credibility and will convince potential customers that it is worth to invest money in your service.
Not all the people know how to create their image and not all of them care about it. You are the person who has to tell them how important it is, you have to convince them that they need you.
If you will create your web site properly, your service will be selling by itself.
