Heat Maps

Anyone use them and do you guys find them useful?

I signed up with crazyegg.com some time ago on a free trial and might pay but was just after what others have found using them.

Use crazyegg all the time. The heat maps over a long period of time really show the weaker areas of a webpage. On one site I had a page I wanted to promote so I changed the position of the link in the navbar and within days was seeing significant changes to clickthrough.

Highly reccommended.

A great way to study user behavior on your website and how they interact with it. When it comes down to conversion, you would realize that small changes can have a significant impact. Website usability and readability has a lot to do with conversion. You can have many visitors but no conversion.

Crazy egg plays a crucial part in helping you find what needs to be tweaked. It helps you ascertain which part of the page is getting the most attention.

This should be a good read before you buy the paid version of crazy egg.

I use heat maps all the time. They are amazing for usability optimisation. I mostly use a free open source software called Click Heat (http://www.labsmedia.com/clickheat/index.html), because I like storing the data myself, but crazy egg is still very good.

I had a fiddle with the site overlay thing in Google Analytics, shows you were people clicked the most etc.
