having your products made in china

has anyone seen this website or had any dealings with them

builtinchina dot com

(this forum wouldn't let me post a proper URL link, sorry guys)

its a website/company that acts as a intermediary between you and chinese manufacturers that says they can take the complications out of having your business's products made in china.

Obviously because labour costs are so low out there in china, they believe they can be really competitive on price.

with there being a lot of scammers out there on the internet you just never know what to think

Forget them both...not sure about the first one you mentioned, but Alibaba is full of traders and middlemen pretending to be factories so be very very careful, it was great at the start when few people actually knew about it, you would actually get bonafide factories, now its like finding a needle in a haystack, there are so many traders, scammers and agents on there that it really isnt worth using for serious sourcing anyway!

Try me...based in Birmingham (so no time zone or lanugage issues), have staffed offices in China and Hong Kong and have been doing exactly what you need for the last 8 years!

Drop me a PM or call me/email me and we can discuss your product and requirments.

Best Regards

thanks khalid, i looked at your website and i was impressed, especially by your very wide product range.

At the moment i'm not ready to have my business's products produced in china, having only just begun considering it, but i've taken all your details and put your website into my favourites.

If i decide to go ahead with chinese manufacturing i'll be contacting you.

thanks again.

It's a tricky one really...little bit like asking how long is a piece of string as some items are really easy to source in China and others more problematical.

I would be inclined to agree in that alibaba.com does have a rather suspect reputation, you might find more joy from Global Sources or from the sourcing service from the HKTDC.

However, if you have no experience in sourcing from Asia or do not plan to develop an extensive range, then I would most certainly work with someone like Khalid. Any % which goes towards the service provided by Khalid is more than offset by better sourced prices, levels of service, safeguard etc etc. Happy days for both parties:)

if its a new product or something where the quality must be just right, you need to consider arranging an initial visit the factory to check its ok, and then a QC check before paying the 2nd half of the order/ before its shipped. This is the only safe way of really doing it.
we (or others) can help you arrange this stuff, feel free to pm me

Also remember that the Chinese are also facing "economic slowdown" and promises made today may mean nothing in a few months time.

I met a guy at the NEC.His business was going to Chinese factories, assessing them, photographing the factory, ensuring they did as they were supposed to,and also checking quality of the finished items.I will see if I can find his info for you.

Dave,

I was looking to have a couple of products made in China and tried google, alibaba and just about anything I could find in the first 50 pages of google.
It is truly like finding a needle in a haystack so I ended up going out their to the Global Sources Trade show and then on to the Canton Fair.

If your serious about it its is probably the best way as the amount of cowboys is staggering and you will a high proportion in the shows.

There are loads of companies that will QC for you (I think Buena Vista is the largest) but I met some smaller more reasonable companies out their of you want their info?

Just be careful as the middlemen will go a long way to dupe you. The other problem is that you need to stay on top of the manufacturing process (or hire someone) as many will not let you cotton on to any problems until their bust (some to save face and others to take as much cash and run)
