Hi,

I am thinkibg about buying a lorry and then hire a driver for a haulage business.

I want to start it with only one lorry. I've read loads of documents about the haulage businesses or driving own lorry, but I did not find anything about a somehow buy-to-let haulage business model.

Anyone knows if this is something that is being done, any specific name or maybe it is not possible for some regulatory issues?

And where the hell do you think you'll find drivers with the current well publicised crisis?

You'll have to pay big money to retain a driver- all whilst fighting for your first contracts.

And that's before you even start thinking about things like hiring a transport manager, obtaining an O license and insurance- which are all legal requirements.

You wont make any money with one
you wont make any money with two
you might make a bit with three
you wont make anything with four
    why
because for some reason when you run even numbers you dont make money but when you run odd numbers ****** than 3 you are always in profit dont know why

    =

    1000 trucks problems
    1001 trucks profit

Head over to trucknet.com ask this question on the fleet owners section and they will proper kick your ass ! :):)

The business to get into at the moment is the supply of leased and HP tractor units. I've an old friend in the business who after a very long dry spell is rubbing his hands together at the commission he's likely to make.
The view in his industry is bonanza.

I’ve known a couple of owner drivers including my BiL and they all gave up in the end. And that’s driving for themselves never mind employing someone.

My BiL did actually buy a ready mix lorry and employ a driver for quite a few years but it never really made any money to the extent that in the end it was only kept on the road till the driver retired.
