Has anyone worked as a home-based travel consultant for The Travel Franchise company? What are the good and bad points about working for them?

My friend did. Gave it a really good go for 3 or so months and then gave up. Pretty much impossible to make a living out of it.

Do people really use travel agents these days? I said to my friend, that the only way I could see her making a success would be to do something a bit niche - people who are looking at more of a travel holiday rather than just going to one resort. In effect, they tell you what they want, when they want to go, etc and you then put together a holiday. But even then, would there have been enough demand.

I used to go in a shop if I wanted a package holiday, if I put "Spain holidays" in Google, the travel franchise isn't even page one.

Given their name has franchise in it, to me it sounds like their main purpose is to sell franchises not holidays...at least that's what their brand implies

I'd have gone for someone like Explorer Travel as they work with hayes travel.

Franchises tend to polarise opinions.

Personally I don't see them as inherently either good or bad, but the way that they are sold and bought can be stadium.

First big red flag, are they trying to push you into buying or are they interviewing you for suitability? A good franchisor will always do the latter. Any hint of pressure to buy tells you they are in the business of flogging franchises, not holidays.

We were at a franchise show and we had two sales for our franchise model rather than theirs as they couldn't prove their model, which is the basis of a franchise.

I've a mate that works for a travel franchise, and he does ok. But he quite specifically works on packages for people that are put together specifically for them. High value, business class flights, transfers, guided tours, hotel bookings for people that are looking for someone to build a relatively high cost trip.
