Has anybody built a site with jimdo

I am of course bias, but I always think you get what you pay for with these website builders, some OK software and a lot of time setting it up to look fairly mediocre.

It depends how much time you have to spend on building your shop and how unique you want it to be. Our bespoke stores are £30 per month and there are many similar ones out there, where a professional designs and configures the system while providing on going support. This maximises your time on marketing and operations rather than technical issues.

I guess I am also biased but I would agree with james_firmsites that with free website builders you would end up with a very basic site.

I have a similar opinion for opencart. If you would like a more professional ecommerce website I would suggest to look into Prestashop (free open license) or CubeCart (you would need to purchase a software license and optionally a copyright/branding removal key).

James firmsites can your offer do all of the below

My one main worry is if the website gets that many hits it crashes and i want good support in place if this happens to get it
back up & running a.s.a.p is this down to the hoster to deal with if it happens?

In your opinions is it best to go straight away for your own stand alone website or go with the likes of below
shopify, bluepark or ekmpowershop or should i go with a free cart

one of my fave websites just for ease of use straight to checkout is this one http://www.sportsdirect.com/ if i could get my own website half as good as this then i would be a happy man

Absoloute musts for my website i would like are

1.Customers able to sign up with there facebook/twitter accounts
2.Some sort of customer loyalty scheme where they get points which they save up to get items
3.Large moving banner across the top just like http://www.sportsdirect.com/
4.Be able to leave reviews on products and give them a mark of 1-5 stars for example like http://www.play.com/
5.A sort by drop down box with high to low, low to high, newest items, brands a-z, z to a, best selling
6.View upto 100 items on a page
7.Mobile phone compatible
8.Different currency like dollars & euro
9.Different languages compatible
10.Some sort of stand out deal of the day/week
11.Customers be able to check out as a guest without having to sign up
12.Some sort of bulk upload software where i can take whats in my website and upload it to the likes of ebay/amazon etc
13.Be compatible with software like linnworks etc for live stock updates across all sites
14.Be able to have follow us on facebook & twitter icons on

Jimdo can't do all those things!

If you want a site half as good as sports direct then you are going to need tens of thousands of pounds. I personally think their site is pants and it doesn't meet most of your list either.

Anyway, it's not possible to answer your question without knowing what sort of site you want, how you are going to market it and the products or services you are going to sell and to whom.

We host all our sites as part of the package so should the worse happens your only dealing with one vendor, us. The site is backed up every 24,48 and 72 hours so if you do something stupid to the data we can roll it back.

In terms of your list

1) Not out the box, this would be extra
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) Yes
5) Yes
6) Yes
7) Yes, choice of alternate deployment or responsive
8) Yes
9) You can put any language you like in the descriptions, and use something like the google translate bar for the whole site, but multiple versions of the site for different languages is not supported.
10) Yes
11) Yes
12) Not without additional cost
13) Not without additional cost
14) Yes

A lot of your requests are for more advanced features so you will have to decide weather you prefer lower cost or more features. The majority of your requirements are catered for though.

Good idea to list the capabilities of our ecommerce solution here for you to give you more options. We host all of our clients' websites on our servers and could arrange a regular backup service/agreement with you to ensure the safety of your website and data should anything go wrong. Restoring from backup is a matter of only a few hours.
