Just wanted to run this passed some of you for some advice before I take the plunge.

I'm starting a Handyman business up in the Yorkshire area but can't decide on the best name. I want it to sound a bit better than just a handyman cause I will be doing bigger jobs as well like fencing, landscaping, guttering blah blah blah hope you get my drift.

I have already purchased a few domains for the name-

MRWORKMAN
MRHOMEANDGARDEN
HANDYMANINYORKSHIRE

I have got .com and .co.uk

What do you think of the names? Which would you choose?

Is it better to choose a name with Handyman Yorkshire in it for google searches or won't that make any difference.

Thanks for reading my post
Regards Paul

How about 'Something Home Services' or 'Something Repairs & Maintenance'?

I have worked with a 'service in town' domain and if you do any advertising offline then it can be a hindrance trying to promote such a generic webaddress. I'd go with something more brandable myself, especially if they search in Google for it and you are not #1 or mixed in with all the other similar domains.

Thanks everybody I have decided to go for Mrworkman just sorting my website out, homemade but it's ok for now. I have used Serif Webplus, I will let you know when it's up and running. Just finished my business cards and getting a bit excited, going for vista I know there not very good but 2000 for £40 is ok to start with. Any input or abuse is ok

Thanks Paul

Get better business cards with room for decent sized print for the old folks.

Write down a list of what you can do and what you can't. Write another list of the sorts of jobs which you anticipate people asking you to do. Include the findings from any market research you may have undertaken.

When you cross reference the lists, you will identify the areas where you are likely to be asked to perform a job but do not have the necessary skills.

Once you have identified which skills you need, plan on finding people who offer those skills and how you could benefit by either including their work in your quote and marking their cost up or receiving a commission for work you put their way but for which they bill independently.

Insist they reciprocate.
