Hi all

For my sins I started accepting Paypal payments.

1) As far as I am aware, the money is paid to PP it then sits there for a set amount of time, and then I can withdraw it providing there are no disputes (there haven't been any) Have I got this correct?

2) I've proved identity and everything they have asked for but when I'm attempting to transfer the random amount of money that is now showing as 'available' I'm getting a vague error 'please try later' Does anyone know what could be wrong? I've tried their 'support' hotline and they are, frankly useless.

Any help greatly appreciated!

It doesn't work quite like that - this morning I sold a 30 quid battery - I sent the guy a paypal request, he paid, they told me funds received, I transferred the money to my bank account, out of paypal - 3 minutes end to end? Sounds like you've not followed up on the usual security things - they need your bank details validating those takes time. Once done, it's seamless. I can't fault them at all - something has gone adrift - the snag is working out what?

Its Paypal Business via Shopify. They've asked for all the usual stuff like Passport bank account etc which has been provided. Even down to a photo of the first parcel being despatched etc etc. Fair enough, they stated that i would have 60(?) days where I couldn't withdraw money as I'm a new trader fair enough I guess. Eventually money started becoming 'available' as time went on they are still have £1.7K+ on hold and I'm starting to get concerned that I'll never be paid!

unfortunately PayPal can be quite ruthless while they are getting to know you and trust you, it can take a while before all the limits are lifted and you can enjoy freedom to retrieve your money.

As Paul said above once you get to that stage you can remove money literally instantly. But until then you have to bare with it, make sure there are no account issues and that all data paypal asked for has been provided and validated and just try every day until the day it starts letting you withdraw

Good luck!

Yes I’m quite used to being treated like a hooligan by most of these organisations such as Facebook, google etc etc. Shopify are the only ones I’ve not had issues with And seem half decent!

I was just quite surprised that ‘available’ money is not actually ‘available’ at all, seems very odd. The only thing I can see as outstanding is verification of the bank account This is in progress apparently. The help desk did send something over about using tracked deliveries, however we don’t do this everything I’d Royal Mail 2nd class. So I’m not quite sure where we stand with this?

ah yes the bank verification is very important, this might be why you cannot do anything yet... As soon as your bank is verified I recon that "available funds" will be withdrawable.
Agree with that. It’s the bit most people miss. Check your PayPal account for notifications and you may well find its waiting for the verification to complete.

If you have the barcode for the postage, RM 2nd Class now gives you delivery confirmation, that should be enough for PP.
I had to send a photo of the first parcel I sent out, which at the time seemed to get me an approval tick, I kind of get the idea that using tracked mail gives you slightly higher trust factor with them. Tracked really isn’t an option with such tight margins, we do click and drop the only thing I can think is get someone I know to order and then use tracked parcel for that transaction maybe?

Latest obstacle they threw at me was card was declined when I tried to confirm it (again) doing that thing where they deposit some money into your account and give you an authorisation code. spent 20 minutes on an 03 number speaking to the bank who confirmed there was no block on the account. Think they’ve told me to add the card again but that is for another day, losing the will to live with these charlatans!

Thanks, interestingly enough I don’t particularly ‘like’ or ‘trust’ them very well either! I know if I tried this smoke and mirrors approach with my customers I’m sure my feet wouldn’t touch the ground as Im ejected from the PayPal platform!

Click and drop will give you delivery confirmation.

But it does work without issue for many. I didn’t have any issues setting up and validating my account. That being said, I’m with one of the high street banks not one of these new entrants to the financial market.

We try to avoid PayPal wherever possible, their fees just go up and up and their terms get less and less fair as time goes on.
