Will Google Street View , applications like Apples Siri and the Andoid Speaktoit impact the way people search in the future. Will initiatives like these have an impact on SEO and will Google Places and Google Maps become more relevant in search?
Mobile is becoming the preferred device for search and if you are in a certain location and are say looking for a restaurant and all you need to do is ask for restaurants in that location or deals from retailers will this also affect PPC?

Mobile Search is Very Important to Yahoo

“We envision that mobile search will be the dominant form of search globally in the next five years (or less) and that web search will be a smaller component,” Seth said.

He added that mobile engineers based in Beijing are working on the next generation of search, and mobile plays a central role.

With the number of mobile queries growing between 5 to 7 percent month over month, Yahoo has been working on various products to meet the rising smartphone trend. The company has rolled out a global product for smartphones and is also building a product dedicated for tablets including apps to cater to niche vertical needs.

Latitude Digital Marketing today releases its Q3 Mobile Report emphasising the rapid growth of mobile web users in 2011. Nearly one in seven of all search queries are now conducted via mobile, which is an 8% increase from 2010 when approximately one in every 15 search queries came from mobile.
Smartphones are now responsible for 7% of all paid clicks, with 3% of all paid clicks coming from Tablets. The arbitrage opportunities from mobile search continue in many sectors, as Q3 Mobile CPCs averaging on 23% cheaper than desktop and Tablet CPCs 13% cheaper than desktop.
These findings come as Q4 is expected to see a record number of transactions for mobile retailers. Growth in consumer confidence combined with a growing user base suggests this Christmas will smash m-commerce records for prepared retailers. The continuing increase in Tablet visits appears to be driven by Apples iPad products, with Tablet visits reaching a plateau at the start of the year, and then sustained growth following the March iPad2 release.
Alex Hoye, CEO of Latitude, said of the findings: “With the number of UK mobile webs users anticipated to reach 30 million in 2012, what we are seeing in Q3 is merely just a sign of things to come. User adoption of mobile search is exceeding advertiser’s adoption of the channel, giving those targeting mobile a cost advantage. We at Latitude are staying ahead of the curve by using our integrated intelligence approach to customise mobile search campaigns into our clients’ overall digital marketing strategies

Surely this will have an impact on search?

Perhaps globally, as there are countries where mobile phones are common, but computers aren't.

However, I don't see that happening in the UK in the next 5 years.

It's frustrating how many people refer to "mobile" as something separate from "web". It's entirely possible to have a mobile optimised experience of the same website.

Mobile uptake in the past 12 months has been CRAZY. I'm working on a site just now with a couple million uniques, and the mobile stats increase a couple of points per month.
