Newbie here so please go easy lol
also apologies if this is in the wrong place

I know this is a strange request but here goes.
I have spent hours looking for a really good company (I think they are called SEO )companies to get my website on page 1 of google.
When I finally found one with loads of positive online reviews I then found out they were fined for making the reviews themselves that company was called total seo.
Am I missing something here I mean shouldn`t an online company have loads of google reviews etc
Or is it as some people have suggested a waste of money??
I mean how do you get to page 1 on google???
Thanks for any help much appreciated

You get to page 1 on Google by following a process, it isn't really rocket science.

However, as there are many people desperate to be at the top of Google for their chosen search terms it is competitive, and also there are many many crooked people preying on the the naive. I think you are beginning the learn that.

Don't get me wrong, not all SEO companies are crooks, but one problem is trying to work out who is an honest broker and who isn't, and another problem is, the people that are really good at SEO don't need to sell their services, either because they can make a better living 'doing' or that they are in so much demand as their reputation proceeds them so much they don't need to sell themselves. Therefore they are not 'cheap'.

My advice would be to focus on providing value to your audience as a first. If you're already doing this, you're off to a great start.

It can cost a lot to appear where you want to on Google, it doesn't necessarily have to however. Depends what you want to rank for.

But if you do sink lots of cash into an SEO company and a few weeks or months down the line Google brings out a major change to an algorithm (something they do quite often) that sees your ranking plummet - you'll likely need lots more cash.

Personally, I never bought anything from a business based solely that they came up on the first page, or first position of Google.

I do tend to put my hand in my pocket when it's something of value that is worth more to me than the price.

Serve your audience first, Google will catch up eventually.

    Hope this helps.

    All the best.

Yes there is a difference between ranking high and sales - but statistics show that the top 3 positions get 65% of the search traffic. More search traffic, means more chance of a sale, all other things being equal.

I mean how do you get to page 1 on google???

The obvious answer here is pay for it by AdWords, it is quicker and in the short term cheaper than SEO and that way you can 'test' the value of ranking high.

Absolutely Alan, I agree with that, all other things being equal - assuming sales are the top priority.

If so, then the landing page / website is something to get spot-on as well to convert well.

All depends what you're wanting to rank for and how competitive things are.

Organically, it's tough - agree with Alan again with the AdWords point.

I remember them getting caught for this! However, fake reviews are still far too common online.

There is some good advice already in this thread but as a word of caution about Adwords, you can't just "throw some money at it" otherwise you will just be giving it away to Google. You still need a great landing page with a strong call to action to maximise conversions. You need to measure and A/B test ads and landing pages....there's a lot to it these days if you want to do it properly and not waste your money.

It is true that the estimated 65% of search traffic will came from the top three position for more search means opportunity to convert. However studies also shows that some in the top ten position (not mentioning the top 3) in page 1 converts most in terms of sale.

The obvious answer here is pay for it by AdWords, it is quicker and in the short term cheaper than SEO and that way you can 'test' the value of ranking high.

I agree that most of the search results today are dominated by Adwords campaign most of the time top 3, top 4, or 5 before the number 1 position in organic results. However these high ranking ads has also the metrics to position their ads and there are some similarities in Google rankings and it is called quality score - a combination of bidding, history of ads, relativity and performance to determine the position in the results
