Hi, have just been told that a brochure I attach to emails to potential customers looks out of focus and generally crappy when downloaded.

I send it as a word doc., and when I checked it on my sent mail it looks fine, but sent to others it looks terrible. Should I make the word doc. into a jpeg?

Excuse general dimness, self-taught and probably missing the bleedin' obvious, thanks for any pointers.

Can you clarify, your subject says google docs, the text says word doc - do you mean a MS Word document? Have you uploaded it to Google Docs (now Google Drive)

I am unclear as to exactly what you have done and with what.

If you can clarify with exact details I might be able to understand / help you.

Hi, sorry ... I attach the brochure which is saved as an MS Word document , send via gmail, where Google drive does its stuff. When it offers to view original document it is clear and legible, but when you view download it looks very poor quality. Sorry if that not any clearer, other attachments have not had this problem.

Yep. pdf is what I use for any document that goes with an email, even purchase orders.

Yeah an inherent problem of Google Apps / Docs, it has to convert everything uoloaded into HTML resulting in altered content, such as missing charts and changes to document layouts, meaning you might not be seeing a document as it was intended to look.
We blogged about this a while back in our Office 365 vs Google Apps blog

Thanks for replies, especially about Google Docs mashing things up. I am using Windows 2003 so apparently not straightforward to add adobe pdf converter thingy.
Will try saving it as a jpeg and see if that works ok,
Thanks again

Cute PDF is free and works just like a printer on your computer.
