Google Analytics VS PIWIK

Hi guys, What you think? Which one is best for web analysis, Google analytic or PIWIK. Please give your opinions on this.

Little to choose between them for features, but with Piwik you own the data.

The only time I'd consider GA over Piwik is for an adsense site.

Why does it have to be free? It's only $30/year, less than a pound per week.

PIWIK is good but does take a bit of time to set up. GA is easy but you are selling your soul to the devil.

Get clicky is free. You can pay to upgrade for additional features, such as live visitor prompts, or where you ranked in google when someone clicked on your website.

Yea you will need your own server. Don't get bogged down by all the different packages. Google Analytics is fine and there is no such thing as "your data" if it come in via a search engine it is there data! You can't stop them from taking it.

So , do you mean by not using GA you will escape from the eyes of Google. I don't think GA has any thing to do with this in-fact in GA you would get right information from Google and can track how your website is performing on Google. One more thing to note here is that 83% people prefer Google to search so, in order to get traffic to your site you have to rely on Google.

No, I'm saying that when you use GA you are allowing google to do as it wants with your data - it's in the T&C.

Just because people prefer to use google as a search engine doesn't mean you will get better stats from GA. In fact most analytics packages give you better search info than GA.

Yup, one of the reasons I dont touch GA.

In fact Im in the process of dumping all Google products since snakeoil hair loss treatments started following me around youtube, despite me never having searched for them.

I use GA and GetClicky, but I am thinking of stopping my premium subs to GetClicky. Why do you think GetClicky is better than GA?

PIWIK is good but does take a bit of time to set up.

On my host it is in Softaculous so it takes about 10 seconds to set up, probably quicker than registering with GA


I would also add that I have been running Piwik side by side Google Analytics for my own sites for a couple of months, and now I don't even look at GA for those sites. The only time I look at GA is for my clients that are not using Piwik.

There is no specific reason for this except it just seems easier to get the information I want from it quickly.

I don't know more about get clicky but atleast GA is a free service and also very reliable, in my point of view.

That's a trade secret

GA has better information on which adsense ads were clicked. Though I now doubt that that little bit of extra info is worth giving G an insight into the internal flow of your website.
