Hi, I'm a French teacher with a newly launched `home made' website to attract new students, both physical and on-line. I am lacking in IT skills and am wondering how to ensure my website is easily accessed via search engines. I'm aware I might have to pay for this assistance but don't know who is best to approach. Advice would be welcome, please! Thank you

How have you built your website? It’s possible you will not be able to rank the site if you are using the a site builder.

It also depends on what keywords you are targeting. If it’s generic keywords (french teacher) it’s going to be difficult and expensive. But if you are targeting a very local area with a specific service then it’s a lot easier and you may find there are better ways to market your services.

You don't need IT skills. IT and marketing could hardy be any more different skill sets. Without exception, small businesses who let their IT department deal with the website have terrible websites. Don't make the mistake of thinking its IT skills you need to develop.

He does need IT skills to ensure the website can be can be crawled and does not have any issues (i.e. on-page factors are right).

He needs marketing skills to promote the site and generate further traffic.

Consider ads, Google business profile to get on maps and local search,
https://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/business/ , listings in Yell, Gumtree and similar, including local ones. Its hard to say what will work for a particular type of business.

Local directories are good, like Google My Business as mentioned above but like everything, you will need to know what to do, so you can either get someone to do it for you to make sure it's optimised properly and post great content and offers for you.

Social media too, the beauty is this is all free advertising, you just need to know how to go about it, as in what to say and when to say and more importantly, who to say it to, you need a targated audience. You will then need a newsletter, to educate your audience, now we are kicking in email marketing here, great for relationship building, you may need a what is called a lead capture page, also known as squeeze page.

You can run social media ads to grow your site. Nowadays Facebook and Instagram ads are costing so much. You should go for YouTube ads they are cheaper than FB and Insta. Create a short video explaining your website and run it as an ad on YouTube. I think this can work for you.

I recommend reading the book "Traction: How Any Startup Can Achieve Explosive Customer Growth".

I think it would be really useful for you.

It breaks down marketing into a process while teaching you about the differences between Channels and Platforms.

This will give you a lot of ideas, and ultimately help you find where you should be spending time & money on marketing.

The other side of this is the critical one of creating customer personas. If you don't do this you're going to find marketing a difficult chore.

This really depends on the industry and many other factors. Some of my clients use just Google Ads and Facebook is not as good in terms of results, others get better results from Facebook.
You have to admit whatever industry you are in Facebook ads will not work for B2B companies. Alex

I am trying to learn French... there are a lot of apps that are great for beginners and more importantly convenient to use versus a class. One area you should explore is the A Level French grinds... might be good money there if you get an understanding of the course while possibly see if there is an Alliance Française near you that might be able to advise you.

Internet presence which is the visibility of brands, businesses, or products and services on search engines is the answer to your question. It makes it easy for potential clients to discover how to deal with a business’ representatives without difficulty. But it is not limited for a business to just being easily searchable on the internet; therefore, a site being on top of search results is not sufficient.

Digital Marketing should be executed properly. Below are some of the different kinds of digital marketing:
    1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - it is the use of effective keywords to make a website appear on the first page of search engines, like Google.
    2. Content Marketing - it is the writing of articles related to a business' expertise
    3. Web Design - this is important; it involves creating stunning designs for a website to appeal to a certain target audience.
    4. Social Media Marketing - this is effective in enticing customers to become paying customers by using different social media sites. Most businesses post articles as well as captivating photos of their products and services.

Before worrying about implementing any plan to get your website noticed - start with who you are looking to target. Are you teaching children, adults, are you able to tutor for specific exams (e.g GCSE, A-Levels) etc? This will help you to understand what keywords you may wish to rank for if you are looking to go down the SEO/Google ads route.

Realistically, if you are looking at Google ads these can be low volume/high cost keywords - just taking a look at french teacher near me, for example - there are on average 720 searches for French tutor near me (that's across the entire UK)- and the cost per click ranges from around £0.60p - £1.99. Obviously that's a single example, but gives you some idea. I would imagine, that, taking into account the number of clients you can reasonably manage, that PPC is not going to be cost-effective for you.

Starting local is probably your best bet - particularly if you can tutor for exams. Set up your Google My Business listing, get on local Facebook groups, and if you are in an area where Nextdoor is used, get on there too.

Facebook ads could probably work too - again you will need to define your offering properly - so think about who you want to target - parents of certain age children, those who have just been on holiday to France (we always come back wishing we could speak just a bit more), someone else?

Starting with your target market is more important than anything else!

    Hi,
Use PPC Google and post great content via a blog, do not buy web traffic as this is not good for your website, and you will end up getting bots, no conversions.

When you write your content, ensure you use the H tags and do not snuff the keywords, write engaging content.

Use social media to push your content to Facebook, linkin, twitter etc, new websites take time to get visits, but with effort and time, you will get visits, also ensure that you have a great design, site is optimize for speed.

    Regards
