get rich quick schemes

Now i've never read into any of these type of schemes or will i ever take part in them but it does intrigue me a bit.

Having launched my business website last week, i've been delving into loads of business networking sites and forums etc and it seems to me that most of these "i made x $$$ in one day" schemes come from the american sites.
Why is this do you think?? it does confuse me.

and what are they actually selling? i mean there must be some market out there for it, because the internet seems to be full of this sort of thing!

thanks. Had to get that off my mind:)

hi, its a scam to get you sucked in to buy into it. once you' ve paid some money across then you get nothing, or you get the ability to sell 'nothing' to your friends and get them sucked in so they pay you money and you give them nothing in return.

this is just my humble opinion. in my view, stay well clear.

They aren't selling anything... which is the whole problem. They are promising huge wealth for no effort to greedy/lazy/stupid people... and there are a lot of those around. The organisers/founders certainly get rich but the people buying in get screwed.

i wouldnt say all of them are scams - i paid £20 for an ebook about a simple way of making money through spamming craigslist

did i make as much money as the ad promised? NOT EVEN CLOSE

have i learned of a new way to make money? YES

was it worth it? kind of. i didnt make allot of money, but defintely more then i paid for the ebook

My dad once told me of a scam run in the national papers when he was younger (50's/60's I think) Basically some cheeky chappie put an advert in the paper advertising information on how to make X amount of money a week or something. The person replying had to send money and and SAE. The replied to everyone with the following message:

To make X amount in a week simply take out an advert in the newspaper offering information on how to make X amount in a week.....:)

I'd love to think this was true:) and kind of wish I'd thought of it!

A lot of these are run on the same principle. You pay and then are told to put up similar adverts and you get (probably very small) percentage of the commission from the advert.

Like in the early nineties when there was these adverts offering £150 per hour for addressing envelopes. You paid your money and then your job was to send out numerous junk mail to people offering them... guess what? And you got a commission on all those that signed up!

It depends what you mean by "this sort of thing". There most certainly is and always will be a market for Get Rich Quick schemes. But there probably isn't and never will be a market for what the schemes sell.

Whether or not you can actually "get rich quick" depends on your definition of "rich" and "quick".

Tens of thousands in one day? Unlikely.
A million in 2 years? Very doable.

TBH Obscure, if they're that stupid then they deserve to get screwed. Let's face it they're so stupid and greedy then it WILL happen, it's just a case of how soon!

Another known get rich quick scam is when you take a number of people, give them a shares tip telling half the shares will go up, the other half that the shares will go down - then you do it again 2, 3, 4 times, until you have a small number of people that you have given a correct share tip to several times - then you use that to sell a share prediction software tool or similar...

1000 original people - 50/50 tip - 500 get good news, 500 get bad

leaves 500 interested people - 50/50 tip - 250 get good news, 250 get bad

leaves 250 very interested people - 50/50 tip - 125 get good news, 125 get bad

leaves 125 greedy suckers... you get the idea...

It's the same thing Derren Brown used on a recent TV show. Worked very well. It was atleast half way through the show before I'd clocked how he was doing it.
