FSB or BIRA

I am planning to take on a new staff member. Due to the complexity of the day one rights policy happening next year, I am planning to join either FSB or BIRA so I can access their contract template and hr support in case there is a need for it. Which one of them would you recommend? Many thanks.

If you have business insurance - check it includes Legal Advice. If it does, you probably get access to the legal advisors online portal with templates and free advice on the end of a phone.

@CT1212: I’ve been weighing the same choice lately, actually. The day one rights stuff is a real curveball, and having proper HR backup feels less like a bonus and more like a must now. I’d lean FSB if you’re looking for broader small biz support beyond just HR – their legal helpline's saved me a few headaches. But if you’re more retail-focused, BIRA might speak your language better. Curious though – do you already have internal HR support or würdest du komplett auf deren Templates setzen?

I am biased, but look at Your Business Community, a modern alternative to old fashioned business groups!

@MikeJ: Haha, yeah – sorry about that weird switch mid-sentence. German’s my first language and someone walked in right as I was typing, totally threw me off track. Meant to ask: are you planning to rely fully on their templates or do you already have someone in-house for HR stuff?

FSB is a ponzi scheme and worthless whilst I have no knowledge about BIRA.

However, you cannot simply attempt to ignore things and outsource them and by the time you educate yourself, you don't need these folks.

You have ACAS for free anyway which is exactly where your employees would be going.

That’s a sharp take, and I get where you’re coming from with the “learn it yourself” angle – I’ve had moments where diving in taught me more than any template could. But I’d push back a bit: some of us just want a safety net for the messy bits, especially with new rules kicking in. ACAS is solid, true, but feels more like neutral ground for disputes than a support line for an owner trying not to trip up. Do you reckon leaning fully on ACAS is enough when it’s about shaping contracts from scratch, or just once issues arise?

You either do not know what a Ponzi scheme is or have alteria motives.

The value these groups offer is phenomenal...
