Heya,
A hobby might have potential to be turned into a half decent wage. I just started to sell gaming PC's on Ebay, been building computers from a very young age and I like doing it. Never really thought about going self employed till I found myself unemployed claiming JSA.
I make on average £35 per computer sold and I can sell 1 a week, right now its annoying to come up with the amount I need to have to wait upto 21 days to recieve payment thanking you very much PayPal )=
I think I can get this to 2 desktops a week so in my mind that £75 a week plus whatever benefits I can still claim, I think I get like £20-30 a week or so I can live on that and pump the profits into this.
I have worked with IT companies and been taking advantage knowing a few right people but right now they are helping me out with 1 or 2 things at a time and I really need to buy in bulk, I could buy old stock direct from businesses.
I don't think I am in anyway disillusioned, the job centre people are the ones telling me to go self employed. I am confident the numbers are right because if they were wrong there be no way I could physically afford the stock I have now, I simply printed off every invoice and kept it in a folder and then added it up at the end, minus Ebay fee's etc.
How hard-ass are the people at the Tax Credits?
I really hope to maybe give JSA a boot and claim Tax Credits at somepoint and it says on their site I need to do all kindsa business plans and that does not look fun, I feel like they'd just send me back an F and tell me to go back to school. I think I can do simple, like say here's the cost, here's the fee's, here's the profits and here's projection based on the last so&so weeks. Is that a business plan? Would that do?
How do I prove I be working 30 hours? What counts as work? I play on these computers to make sure everything works and you needa play for about 3 hours to make sure the cooling is working correctly. LOL! I am serious, I know you can get all kindsa programs that test everything out but its only when you play games you really notice something is outa place. Sometimes I don't even wanna play haha.
I would genuinely be working 30+ hours a week solely on building a website from scratchthis doesn't make me an income, does this still count?
Are Tax Credits backdated?
Would mind telling me exactly what your sending to the Tax Office?
I plan on growth by turning my home into a PC repair business but I just feel right now I need to concentrate on one thing at a time, im very slow haa. Also I want to put effort into a decent site and have Ebay as my feedback and be like "sold over x" and " ebay buyer FB" because people spend heaps on these things and if I were them I'd would take it to PC world, I figure if I can display that amount of FB I could maybe change their minds.
At the point of selling 3 PC's a week I be ready to come off JSA and really take this as a full income. My biggest worry is JSA closed and Housing Benefits taking months to come up with either £5 added or taken from my current claim. Ebay money is my only money and then need to pay rent from Ebay money, if Housing Benefits take too long I am screwed and if I don't get tax credits I'd be pi**ed.
