Yea It makes me so Mad when these guys go, heres your website all done.
They know full well its never gonna get anywhere but they take the money and go on to the next onethey couldnt give a stuff ..
I couldnt sleep at night operating like that could you ?
Hell no, it is pretty much standard issue to make sites with SEO in mind!
Many Thanks for pointing Them out i honestly thought i had tags to google and that on there, I think i will have to get it a second opinion on it from someone with a bit more knowledge than the one i used
Well i had it done by a single contractor who works for prestoshop and its been up for about 4 weeks its has been getting a small amount of hits per day and sold a few items which lead me to belive it was up running ok
yeah its getting small amount of hits and that and if you type toysandstationary into google it appears near the top, how do i get the keywords and meta tags to show up on google because i thought they already did that
couldnt tell you to be honest , i belive i found the way to do meta tags now so i will be up a while sorting that out now, it would explain a few things why i was getting so few hits a day without all that,
do you honestly think its that bad ? im really glad i have found this out now and not next few weeks as i am planning to put alot more items on the website to increase it aswell , Honestly had no idea because i was thinking the lack of hits was down to the fact im not really putting that much into advertising at this min in time just using ebay, facebook really cheap ads, free search engines untill the website sales increased.
Yes.do you honestly think its that bad ?
My guess would be a negligible number and those that do would probably spell it correctly. How many people type in toysandstationary . though ?
Ok,
I will put my neck on the line here and expect people will disagree... I know good practise suggests it is best to make sure you spell correctly and your domain has a typo in it - but so do you.
However, having had a quick look, there are hundreds of thousands of searches on Google a month for the typo variant of stationery - its a crowded market and you stand a good chance of being the number one result for the typo. Meanwhile, frankly, you have not a cat in hells chance of ranking highly for the correct spelling.
I say stick with your faux pas and let it be a strength.
Searches breakdown (Global searches on Google):
1,300 per month "Buy Stationary"
720 per month "Where can i buy stationary"
1,300 per month "partners stationary"
12,100 per month "paper stationary"
6,600 per month "wedding invitation stationary"
49,500 "personalized stationary"
22,500 "printable stationary"
4,400 "papyrus stationary"
1,900 "cheap stationary"
1,900 "Disney stationary"
etc.. etc..
So, I would go with stationary - yes, you may look a bit foolish to those who can spell it, but clearly there are plenty who can't and that's your market!
Happy to help you out with the site, SEO etc if you are looking for someone who will work within your resources and be creative and constructive rather than shoot you down in flames!
Quick tips:
Remove the landing page - let people straight into your shopping cart, no need to make me click through from homepage - just let me at the stationary!
Clean up your logo a little bit and make your masthead area tighter/smaller.
Use unique product descriptions - don't just copy and paste from the wholesaler.. if its unique you have a better shot at ranking on Google and others for relevant terms.
Other tips - search engines: as other said - focus on the big 4 - Google (65% market share) Yahoo, Bing, Ask.com
Get your sitemaps up, get google webmaster tools, bing webmaster toolsd and yahoo webmaster tools up and running. Get Google analytics installed.
I think you stand a good chance of generating thousands of orders a month, because of your typo, rather than in-spite of.. you just have to get yourself up there for all the major keywords related to the typo.
Good Luck!
Optimising for bad spellers can be a useful tactic but not by misspelling your domain name. If I arrived at a website with an obvious spelling mistake in the domain name and in the editorial then I would hesitate to do business there. It conveys a bad general impression - scammers and hackers often spell badly and some people could get the wrong idea.
If you want to capitalise on spelling errors this is a better way of doing it. Maintenance/Maintainance.
.
you're already selling just via the websitehow have you done that? or have you sent out lots of advertising first?
not sure about the spelling mistake, i dont like it personally but then it does my tree in when people get domain names wrong. typos in lengthy text can be hard to spot but in a domain name :|
you can just register another domain name for less than a tenner and have that linked to the current website and such.
