Hello,

As it's year end I understand I am supposed to file these documents. I use the HMRC Basic PAYE Tools to do the wages, we have 8 employees at the moment. How to I file the P35 and P14.. I find it all very confusing.

I tried to call the new employees helpline but the recorded lady told me they were very busy and hung up on me.. Thanks for that.

I am confused too. I dont have the options in basic paye tools I did last year !

But get this, I rang HMRC and some answered after a few rings. Still was the wrong department.

I've already tried those links but I'm getting a headache and feel like i'm going round in circles. Could you just tell me in plain English?

Without sounding rude I dont know if it can really be summarised any further.

If you really want to deal with your own PAYE you just have to read through each section slowly and carefully.

You will probably find third party payroll software much easier to use or perhaps consider asking your accountant to deal with this for you?

The web site sums it up very well or you can go on a course or you will have to pay someone to do the end of year returns. They really are not that complicated - how far in the reading did you get?

Just spoken to HMRC and was told I need to update PAYE tools to the latest version. When you open it up it should say 'Basic PAYE Tools 2012' If it just says 'Basic PAYE Tools' it will need updating.
It can be downloaded from http://hmrc.gov.uk/basicpayetools

Once you have downloaded and merged your data it will push you to complete the end of year.

First of all have you registered? You need a user ID and a password.

Google 'hmrc PAYE service availabilty' gives you times when service is available.

If you submit them direct from Basic PAYE tools, the service is currently available, but you won't get an acknowledgement till after they've finished the maintenance.

In Basic PAYE tools go to the Employer database, on the Employer tab there's an option at the bottom where you can submit your returns. It's pretty straight forward, just follow the prompts and answer the questions (most of the figures you need are already filled in).

Make sure you've got all the information you need to hand because once you start you have to keep going till it's done.

HTH.
