Ferkin Firefox keeps crashing, any tips?

Version 2 something started crashing so I installed V3, pile of junk and that kept crashing, so I uninstalled that went back to V2.0.0.7 that keeps dying.

Got rid of all the addons and whatnot and it's still useless, any suggestions.

OS is XP updates to and including SP3.

When you have uninstalled it, have you tried going to program files and deleting any remnants of the Mozilla\Firefox folder? And what about the Firefox entries in HKLM\Software in the registry? (Be careful about that one though). Seems like something is being left behind. I have run firefox for about 4 years and never ever had it crash. And I bastardize it with all sorts of addons too. Do you have other Mozilla apps installed as well? When in particular does it crash, straight away after startup or when you are browsing? Perhaps loading a java applet? And further information you can give us would go a long way

first is to clean up your registry, some errors are not erased on registry even if you have uninstalled the previous software... you can download free Registry Cleaner... then try to install V3 again...

Can't say I've ever had issues with FF crashing - so as others have said, I'd suggest completely killing the folder off in Program Files, and finding registry keys as well.

don't forget the profile specific folders too where it keeps your personal settings

tsk tsk. Netscape was superior to IE in every way in its hey dey. I remember when they tried a resurgence and I actaully enjoyed using Netscape 7. Then it just died and I moved to Opera for a year or two. That lacked a certain something and I've been with Firefox happily ever after. IE isn'r even on the horizon.

Thanks folks on FF again after a complete blitz (complete regeidt and compaction) and so far so good, just need to start adding back on all the bits.

I've heard Chrome is pretty tight.

I'm running FF3 fine here. Had some trouble with FF but it turns out it was Norton 360 giving grief. Soon nuked that

Hey and you lot laughed at me when I said FF3 was giving me hassle and wouldnt stop crashing!! But no, I aint going to use flock or IE thanks ... when I need speed I use safari, beats the pants off all of them, but FF is my favourite for the nice little addons that save me hassle!
