Feedback needed for my website

Hi Guys,

Even though now its been a while since I launched my website ( www.stylevolume.com ), I havent had too much time to make a lot of changes. I know the text on front page looks a bit tacky and hence am thinking of getting it sorted with the help of a web designer. Also looking for lots of suggestions, and ideas on what else I can do to boost sales and make the site more user friendly, attractive and professional.

Any comments and suggestions would be most welcome.

Yes, switch emphasis from all that text to much larger images of your jewellery.

Feature your best selling items on the first fold, and make sure the user can click the image and it takes them directly to the page they can buy that item from.

You need much more infromation about each piece - length, clasp, materials, how inspired, where made

I'm not sure about the black background on the images. I wonder what others think.

Agree with sillyjokes on the front page section.

On the product images - personally I am not over keen on your photos. Looking at them there are many that are overexposed, some that are simply out of focus, you can see the black "material" in many of them rather than it just being a void like blackness as it is in a few others etc. If I was buying from a wholesaler I would probably want to reuse the images to sell the items myself online/ flyers etc - to be brutally honest I would want to retake the photos myself rather than use the current ones.

On the black background thing... looking at the big bigger jewelary players like De Beers, Tiffanies, Goldsmiths etc they have all gone for white page background, white photo background - personally I think this works better than the black photo, white page.

I agree with the photo's but regards to the text its too blue. and not defined that well to what is what. it took me some time to focus and work out what was what.. must be my age. I believe that if you keep things clean and simple then everyone will be able to use your site and navigate without any problem. just remember most people using the net now are newbie's and not very experienced with computer's let alone website's

Totally agree with that. I am looking to outsource that part to an expert as I am more of a business person than a technical person in Jewellery, and the people who manufacture my jewellery are not Native english hence the names of the beads tend to be different due to the language difference. Also time is a limiting factor, but I am sure this is something which needs to be addressed quickly.

In regard to the images, I have been browsing around quite a few jewellery sites and noticed some prefer a black background whereas others go for white. I would like to know which one would you personally prefer and why?

i would go for the black backgrounds. it makes things stand out more.
if the product is black, then u will need to choose either a white background or something light.

I think the bg color for the images would be dependent on the scheme/tone of the site itself.

White background if you are aiming for 'light and airy'

If you are sticking with black you could probably save a fortune on getting the photos re-shot by talking to Lee Ruff at http://www.ffureel.co.uk - he's a new member here and does excellent re-touching work.
