Facebook Marketing

I have some ideas in relation to marketing our business on Facebook. I have to admit that I dont fully understand the 'art of the possible' but I do have a view as to how the marketing might work.

Are there any Facebook programmers on the forum (if there is such a thing?? - you wouldnt think I have an IT background!!). Wouldnt mind a PM chat with anyone who might be able to help and there may be a small project in it for the right person.

If there is such a person could you please reply and I will send a PM?

Thanks

Hi, I'm young and I know a lot about facebook. I understand how businesses use facebook to market themselves.

Its not necessarily programming. You create a page/group where you put up your business details and then upload regular 'status's' (a bit like twitter), and people can join your page/group where they will receive messages and updates from your page/group.

You can also add photos, videos, events etc.

You can use this to offer people discounts, let them know about new products etc

It depends on your business.

You can also use it to simply promote your business.

I'm not an expert but I use facebook everyday and would like to believe that I have a good understanding of it.

Just looked at Roost.com and they seem to offer a 'toolkit' that can provide some specific functionality for estate agents (or Real Estate Agents as it appears to be American).

I will investigate this a bit further - didnt even know this type of thing existed!!

I can help you. I wouldn't necessarily say FB is the solution before knowing what you want to achieve as well as your objectives. There may be other avenues which may be more beneficial but let's have a discussion and we can take it from there. I can also let you now a little more about my background and expertise. Cheers.

I'm sure I read somewhere that FBML is going to end anyway and change to iframes

For recommendations I would suggest having a chat with http://internet-marketing-va.com/ Emma Ewers as she usually has quite a few giveaway guides with useful info.

Heres another resource for an overview http://web.appstorm.net/roundups/social-media-roundups/great-apps-to-customize-your-facebook-fan-page/

If you want to cheat with easy custom facebook designs there are a few cheat pages around... If I can find I will post a link :)

There is now a product that lets you set up a full shop on Facebook, with shopping cart, and payment gateway. If you are serious about using Facebook, this could be the way to go. Naturally the company is American.

Interesting you have picked on Facebook, have you done all the other common things first?

Drachsi - I specifically want to get set up on facebook but not with a normal fan page. Its need to be better than that as its too static and thats what the other agents are doing. I need to develop a strategy and a presence but its evident I will need a little help.

Thanks

Facebook is a must as is any of the social sites, you can promote all kinds of businesses and put alot of information excellent when you think that most people have a fb account

But don't confuse your target market being on Facebook (and with getting on for 600 million uses chances are they are there) with a willingness to engage with you there.

Most people use Facebook without a suit on, that is they are in friends and family mode. They're likely not that keen to want to engage with companies they have only a professional, work based relationship with.

A rather gruesome metaphor I trotted out to someone I was talking about this with yesterday was "everyone goes to the toilet, but not everyone wants to speak to suppliers while they are doing it"!

Find out where your customers are happiest engaging with you and make that your focus. That could be Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Ecademy, WeCanDo.Biz or even here.

Don't be sucked into the facebook trap. You can't control what people say to their friends or even see it for that matter. Facebook privacy is top notch, when was the last time you saw a conversation between two strangers on facebook? Your network is as big as your friends list and you dont want to be pushing your product onto your mates. Facebook ads is great though... facebook groups, and pages is a waste of time.. this coming from an SEO guy.

What qualification is being a "SEO guy" to comment on using Facebook to engage with customers? Facebook is about communicating with customers, NOT driving website traffic.

No, you can't control what people say to their friends and contacts, but you can't in real life. If they like you then they'll sing your praises. If they don't like you then it's best you know about that and do something about it rather than just let the fester spread.

The reality is that not all comments on your wall will be positive, but it gives you a chance to do something about it rather than sit around wondering why you're losing customers.
