Does anyone here have success with paid advertising on Facebook, especially for lead generation?

It very much depends on your product / service and how you can match that to your audience. You have to remember with facebook its not direct traffic like google ppc so its never going to return the same results, it is however very good for brand awareness.

As said above it does depend on the type of business you are running, but the great thing about facebook is its interest targeting. If you sell kitchen gadgets you can target people with interests in cooking, if sell lawnmowers you can target people with interests in gardening ect.

Facebook allows you to boost posts which can contain links as well - as Paul points out it's not so good for direct B2B leads but with the right strategy it can work. Target people with interests based around business, and focus on the long game of getting them interested in what you do - post freebies where possible and boost these posts.

You can target towards your ideal audience - selling software you are probably aiming at a younger demographic. Selling houses maybe a more middle aged audience. Facebook collects so much information it can be very useful.

Just remember a like can be more valuable than a click through to your website - if you have targeted your ideal customer and received a like chances are at some point they are thinking about using your services. You can then regularly interact with creative posts which you don't have to boost to keep your product fresh in their mind.

Thanks for the responses. The area I was specifically interested in is selling leads for life insurance and PMI to consumers, as that is what my business is concerned with.

Facebook has become great for Remarketing, as it's become a lot easier to build your own audiences and target them. You can even upload your email database, and stay connected with them / upsell other products. Worth looking into!

No, Facebook is not good for this. The reason is simple - think about why people are on Facebook in the first place - to see what their friends are up to or post a moany/bragging status update or a picture of their dinner. With Adwords people who click your ad have specifically typed in the key phrase you want to appear for. There is a level of intent there, you are catching them further down the buying chain. If you're finding Adwords too expensive due to the immense competition in LI & PMI, try other avenues such as Bing or mobile ad networks.

Offering a slightly different opinion, I think it could work - but only if you go further up the funnel.

Do you know exactly who you're trying to attract? Do you know what their challenges, needs and pains are? Can you find a link between those and your value proposition that delivers real value?

If you can offer something incredibly valuable in exchange for a small amount of information, then you could build a list and nurture them down the funnel.

Trying to directly attract leads for life insurance? That's another story. I probably wouldn't bother unless using the approach above.

We're still experimenting with Facebook advertising, but we've had good results this week. My aim was to add more "likes" to our page, and with a fairly small budget we added over 100 page likes within 48 hours, and had loads of shares/likes/comments on the products we were showing.

I would agree that if you have a product with fairly wide appeal, and can then add some specifics to filter who sees your advert then it should generate some interest. I also agree with the other poster though about the interest being much more half hearted than someone specifically looking for a keyword in Google. I think a mix is a good idea.
