Excel vs Quickbooks

Hi folks,

I’m hoping someone can help me here.
I’ve just started a new role in a small niche manufacturing company and been tasked to look into Production and Inventory management and in particular implementing Quickbooks or similar.

Here’s the numbers…

100 Different parts made and sold in bulk orders.
3/4 Processes per unit part at different sub con companies.
25 Customers
2 Warehouses (small)

As mentioned above there’s a real appetite for the company to get Quickbooks or similar but I don’t think they realise the capabilities of Excel having seen it used extensively in project management in my previous (work) life.

There’s also interest in adopting Barcode or QR code readers with whichever system is put into place.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Why would you want to use an accounting tool for production management? Would it not be better to use something more suited to the job?
