I have to admit to being 'pants' (as my son says) at Excel and need some training - I prefer self teach so I can work at my own pace. Anybody know a good course?

When I first started working I didn't know much about Excel even though I'd done a degree in computers. The way I learned was by just using it and thinking 'this is taking too long there must be a quicker way'. The Help file is actually quite useful but it's far easier nowadays to just google what you want to do and you'll probably get a better explanation and examples. I've found that the main problem that most people have is not how to do something it's more knowing when & why they should do it which is something that courses don't really teach. A lot of people seem to be scared of doing things even if they actually know how to do it. The easiest way to get used to the functions is to use the function wizard. They are all nicely grouped with titles that tell you what they do and it will tell you what to put in where.

Yes I think Phil says it all, it can be easy to find help on excel just knowing when and where to use it.

I love excel! :D

Try thinking about what you want to use it for and try and find examples of templates on the web or in excel to give you ideas for your own use.

I go for the hungry minds books.

Big clear visuals adn everything explained well. They work at the first level which for most people is all they ever need.

If you need more then after having worked through their book go and choose one that you like since it is a personal thing.

I find a book far better than online for most learning.
