EU to UK imports - New Rules Now In Play

As of this month if you import goods from the EU you must comply with new UK safety and security declaration requirements. This is another one of the freedoms given to us by the 52%.

Could any of our shipping/logistics members summarise what these new requirements are?

S&S declaration (ENS ) is an advance notification of goods coming into the UK from the EU. It’s just bringing the EU shipments in line with rest of the world shipments.
HMRC/ Border Force use it to risk check the goods prior to arrival.
The notification must be done by the carrier of the goods or someone representing them. Of course there will be a cost to these declarations as only the larger carriers or customs agents are likely to have their own software needed to submit the declarations.
When this needs to be done depends on how the goods are being transported. For RO-RO and short straits crossings it’s at least 2 hours prior to arrival.channel tunnel 1 hour before arrival.

This is such a minefield although hopefully easy if you're living it day to day.

We import our product from Europe.

With Brexit we signed up to AEB to use their software and complete own declaration.
Apparently these declarations are "pre-declaration" through CDS.

With this change from January 2025 for the Safety and Security Declaration we do not have this added to our account.
The courier that our supplier arranges logistics with has said they can handle this declaration.

Do we still need to be completing this pre-declaration submission?

I'm a bit lost with it all now, but don't want to cause our deliveries to be delayed at customs as we're working on tight deadlines now as are others even with perishables on board!
