Anyone used and have any comments on a web based ERP system that they are using or looked into..

I've had a fair old dig around and open ERP looks like a good one..

I'm not necessarily looking for the most features, more the best basic platform for integrating and extending onto (eg Magento).

I'm a big fan of picking the best (or one of the best) apps and then sticking to it rather than trying to learn everything. I want to get deep into ERP and wonder what people think the best / most popular one is?

My company spent several months last year installing and evaluating 30+ CRM and ERP packages (proprietary and open source) and we too came to the conclusion that OpenERP is the best platform currently available in terms of future development and extension. We have found the OpenObject architecture which underlies the system to be incredibly flexible and allows for rapid customisation and development.

We have produced a heavily customised version of OpenERP called junariCRM, which has been sanitised for use by UK-based SME's. We have also developed custom modules for various vertical markets (such as real estate and lettings) with relative ease thanks to the modular design of the software.

Drop me a line if you would like to know more (either here or on the junariCRM Community Forum).

30+ reviews is very comprehensive and an impressive review list. Given the breadth of your review, it would be very interesting to hear and helpful to hear the factors that led you to choose OpenERP.

Having reviewed the market recently, we saw OpenBravo as a strong choice, especially its new version 3, our choice was based on the much improved web interface, ease of use, rich features and very modular design.

As a result, we've made it part of our core offering to our customers.

If you can integrate Magento properly in real time with ANY open source or indeed proprietary back end order processing system and maintain as much flexiblity throughout the offering as possible then you will have a truly unique offering in the UK market.

We've been through just about all of them and they all come with compromise, compromise that shouldn't be technically let alone commercially neccessary.

Also look at Admpiere/Compiere, which is a serious piece of kit.

As for Junari, are they breaching the licence from OpenERP by not making the code freely available?

It's on my list of things to do... not that simple though as I am sure you can imagine.

For anyone who is really interested, I would ballpark creating a proper Magento/OpenERP integration at around £13k in development costs.

That would just be for the bit that gets them both talking and updating each other properly, you would have the Magento implementation and OpenERP implementation costs on top of that.

We had a brief look at both OpenERP and OpenBravo.

From a user perspective OpenBravo is a bit more intuitive we felt, their OpenBravo POS is also pretty good.

OB is still potentially on the table but we'd need to essentially throw a lot of it away.

I think the fundamental issue is that Magento is so academically brilliant in its' structure and the fact that it does try to be all things to all people that integration with it for the mid-market vendors is a tricky proposition. There does seem to be a market for OMS systems with Magento links for vendors just getting out of their garages and there's a market for people implementing ERP systems with large 6 figure budgets looking to transform their entire operation but the space in the middle, the £1-£10m entities is a bit of an integration no mans land.

Best of luck with it!
