Employee arrest, can I get the details?

I've recently had an employee get arrested for a drink driving charge. It went to court, and he's been put under curfew.

Currently we haven't let this affect his employment status with us, but I would like to receive the full information on the case, and the incident.

Has anyone had experience of this, and aside from speaking with my employee, is there anyway I can access the full information of his case?

Have you looked the pages of all your local newspapers published just after the date of the court case? If you haven't your local library should have copies that you should be able to assess.

No, I haven't, I didn't think of that - thank you. But also he works remotely, so it's not that easy for me to enquire as we're not based in the same place.

What details are you looking to find out, outside of that which you already know?

The penalty seems pretty severe for a drink driving, and yes @Mr D - he's got his story, and is an honest person, but I just want to do my diligence and check up on what he's actually been done for in the eyes of the law

Do you know which court it was held in?

I don't actually. Sounds like that's what I'll need to ascertain. The information I should retrieve for situations like this is all new to me! I think there's only one local one to where he is, that I can definitely make a guess. But I'll ask him to fill out all the court case details as a protocol, then I can follow up

A curfew means that he's been given a community order which is not unusual for a drink drive. It may just be that he was *very* drunk. If so he'd also get a long driving ban too - 24 months or more.

If he didn't also get the long ban it suggests that there was also a more severe offence that he was charged with. Is he tagged?

If he didn't make the papers the only place where the story that was told in court would be is with the CPS. I have no idea whether they are able or willing to release that info to a third party - I doubt it.

If there were additional criminal charges he'd normally be obliged to tell you.

    This may help

If this is not going to affect his employment with you. Why do you want to know?

You said the penalty seems severe. Severe compared to what? And on what basis do you feel it is severe?
